I’m just curious if any of you still have classes (Mystagogia) after being confirmed at vigil? If so, how many? Are they mandatory?

We have two more sessions after the Vigil each year but I’m hoping this year we might be able to arrange a sort of ‘post grad’!

Our parish always has Mystagogia, but I kind of had to laugh about the “mandatory”. we have a certified catechist and one priest looking at the syllabus said it was the best he had ever seen. However, we have no way to coerce anyone into continuing on’ one would hope that they have learned enough to realize that every class is worth attending.

I would be surprised if, when you get home, your home parish or one nearby wouldn’t let you sit in on the classes; please feel free to inquire. I suspect that you should be able to sit in on them.

It is not quite the same as continuing on with your group, but should bee worth inquiring about.

Our parish and two classes, the first was Sunday. This coming Sunday, we’ll talk about different opportunities to be involved within the community of believers.

Yeh, it’s impossible to really force someone to take them. I guess strongly encouraged is a better way of putting it.

We have a handful of mystagogy classes. I’m glad I get to hang with the group a bit longer before we disappear into the larger community.

Our parish is fairly large. With the exception of one person, I pretty much never see anyone from the group.

Mystagogy fizzles out very quickly for us. The weather is nice and people want to get outdoors.

We always meet until mid-May regardless of when Easter falls. With Easter being so late this year, we really only have 3 meetings post-Easter.

Before I got here, there was a time where they would only meet once more the week after Easter. Frankly, I cannot imagine doing it that way. The date of Easter fluctuates, and there is a lot of ground to cover. If Easter is early, the people get short-changed on their catechesis.

I cannot really make the classes “mandatory”, though. I can’t take make them un-Catholic if they don’t show up. 😜 I do encourage everyone to come, though. Generally, most people do.

We are going to be looking at ways to be better about helping the RCIA people continue on with small groups and formation opportunities after they enter the Church. I have a feeling we aren’t there yet, but by this time next year we hope to be.
