I am in RCIA, pending an annulment. Respectfully, I find it ironic the church has a specific requirement for a valid marriage, but because I am now in a marriage that meets that requirement I am not eligible to be confirmed. I know it’s more complex than that but I find it almost funny, sadly

Is this a typo…you seem to be saying you are in a valid marriage, and because you are you can’t be confirmed?..perhaps I’m misunderstanding.

I am also confused by your initial post.

Do you mean that you are in a marriage that is presumed to be valid (pending nullity proceedings) that you do not wish to be in?

Are you planning to marry someone else?

sorry for the confusion. I am in process of an annulment, I am remarried and in the type of marriage the church expects. I was only finding it ironic that while trying to annul an “invalid” previous marriage I cant get confirmed, only because I am remarried

Well, the problem is that the Church doesn’t consider you to be married to the person you are currently calling a spouse because they still consider you in a presumed marriage with the first spouse.

But you probably knew that already.

What the Church expects is for those who marry to be free to marry.

If there is a need for the Tribunal to examine your first marriage, you may not have been free to marry.

I get that, I guess I am trying to add some levity to an arduous process
