I use an Android app called “Confession”. It was free on Google Play and I found that it covered a lot of ground! My daughter has an iPhone and used one called iConfess.
One of the best resources given to us was a Examination of Conscience pamphlet from the Fathers of Mercy. It has everything you could ever need for confession!
If there are confessions heard in several languages then there should be “cheat sheets” in the most common languages. To make it easier, print them on different coloured paper and laminat so they will last longer.
My worst confession was in another country and there was no “cheat sheet” and the priest didn’t accept that I translated what I should say. The wording could be different in different languages and also an “old” and a “new” way of confessing.
I am also coming to the end of RCIA classes and due to be received into the church on Saturday at Easter Vigil. I was given the choice of either making an appointment with the priest for reconciliation. Or to go to the penitential service were reconciliation would take place either at the altar, side chapel or in the confessional.
I chose to make an appointment with the priest. I thought that I was prepared but really I wasn’t. Next time I will make a list.
It happens. I make a list for roughly 80% of my confessions and I’m Catholic from the cradle Lest you become discouraged, however, my circumstances are somewhat particular (Anglophone in French-speaking country, failing memory… ). I’m sure over time and with practice your confessions will go more smoothly. God bless and welcome home!
