I registered for RCIA classes starting Oct 17th. I am very excited because this is something I’ve been wanting to get done for quite sometime. I was baptized as a baby but never did first communion and was never confirmed.

Now I know that with young girls that they wear dresses and gloves and veils when they do their first communion and that boys usually wear dress pants and shirts.

My question is what do adults wear?

My husband wore his Sunday best when he was confirmed and received his First Holy Communion at the age of 66, during Easter Vigil. For him, this was his best black suit, white shirt, and the tie he wore when we married. 🙂

Congratulations on your upcoming Sacraments.

Congratulations and Welcome Home!!

I have seen everything from clean, casual clothes, all the way up to a tuxedo.

Wear something nice, clean and modest, and you can’t go wrong.

We tell our folks to wear something nice and appropriate for church in general and the occasion in particular. That generally means men wear suits and women wear nice dresses or pants. This is a good opportunity to go shopping for something new if you want to celebrate the occasion that way.

Your Sunday best - it will be Easter! Wear something that is also comfortable, nothing you have to fiddle with or that is pinchy. The Easter Vigil is a very long Mass, at minimum 3 hours. It may be cold standing outside for the fire that begins the Mass, yet, may get warm in the Church. A light sweater is a good idea. Comfortable shoes, you will be standing and do not want to be wobbly on too tall heels.

I wore a coat and tie and my wife wore a modest dress in a light color when we were confirmed last Easter after going through RCIA.

God Bless and Welcome Home!

welcome home,
these questions will be answered in the course of your preparation, but in general you wear whatever is acceptable attire for church–standard business attire–that is modest, gender- and age-appropriate. If there is some other custom in your parish you will be informed.
