So I’m in RCIA and going to be baptised at Easter, now because of baptism I don’t have to so my first confessed before confirmation. So how does the first confession happen for me, do I do it at a set date in the future or is it just when I feel I need it?

I know that we will talk about this before Easter but I’m curious about how it worked for others

I’m not telling you to do it, but what I did was commit a mortal sin. That’s exactly what you should avoid doing. But, maybe about a week or two after you come in to the Church, you can go to confession to see how it works, even if you don’t actually need to go.

You’ll go when you need to. I’m sure your RCIA classes will cover the mechanics, but you don’t need to go until you need to go. When you do, just inform the priest of your situation. He’ll be patient and understanding and will help guide you if you’re nervous and unsure of what to do. (And if by some odd chance he’s not, you’ll find a different priest for future confessions!)

I’d certainly encourage you to ask at your parish. If you were at my parish, I would tell you there is no set scheduled time for the first reconciliation of those who are being baptized as adults. I would just encourage you to begin going to Confession regularly once you are baptized (once a month is good, or at least every other month).

When you go for the first time, simply inform the priest that it is your 1st Confession and that you are recently baptized. You would only need to confess sins that were committed since the time of your Baptism (since all your previous sins will have been wiped away in Baptism). But, of course, if there is some past sin that you feel you would like to discuss with the priest because of some present-day relevance, you can certainly bring it up. Just be clear with the priest about it.

After Baptism it recommended that one goes to Confession at least Monthly. Let Father know that you were recently Baptized and this is your FIRST Confession and he’ll walk you through it. In the case of a Mortal sin; one needs to get to Confession as soon as possible; even IF very inconvenient.

Church “Law” is that all Catholics are to go to Confession at least once a year “The Easter Duty”; but this can be waved if there have been NO Mortal unconfessed /unforgiven Mortal sins in the past year. Still it is a PRUDENT idea to get to Sacramental Confession often as it is a SOURCE of God’s Grace.

Thanks, unless I go to a different priest he’ll know it’s my first as he’s doing my RCIA and baptising me!
