I am thinking of coming into the Church. I know that in order for me to be confirmed I need to take RCIA. I am a Sales Manager at a Car dealership which mean, crazy crazy hours. What is someone like me to do. Can I miss a class or 2 a month due to work? Just wondering if any of you have ran into this issue. Thanks in advance.

Speak to your Pastor. He will work out something for you.

Each of our sessions is recorded to video, if someone needs to miss a class, they watch the DVD and then come back with questions.

Thanks…Will do so! I want to make sure I fall in line with the RCIA process

Our pastor was willing to work 1 on 1 with someone who had odd hours. I love the fact that he offered that!

Speak to your priest. You may find the class schedule will work out fine for you. Or you may be able to work out alternates like watching a dvd or meeting with the priest or RCIA director to cover the material you missed. Depending on what you already know, or are willing to study on your own, you may also be able to set up private sessions.

So glad you are working toward entering the church!

Welcome Home! The RCIA program is very flexible, I’m sure you work something out with your job and pastor.

Our parish had a small group that met with one of our priests in the morning for people who worked in the evenings. We had a police officer and some parents with multiple kids to took advantage of those times. In addition, we had a very knowledgeable member of our RCIA team who would schedule make up lessons for anyone who needed them.

I would be shocked if your parish did not offer similar opportunities.

Good luck, and welcome home!

That’s lucky! I was told at our local church I need to wait until next year. I’m having a baby at the end of the year and I’m sure to miss a Sunday morning or two (or three!)

Good luck!

you can in this parish, and most parishes. Speak with the pastor and the RCIA director about a schedule that fits your needs, but bear in mind, we have to work with the resoureces available, but we do our best. This year the class is a weeknight because it works best for the catechists and most of the participants. In the past it has been Sunday but this year most everyone works weekends so we switched. If somebody comes in the middle of the year who needs Sunday, we will start a new class, if I can find someone to teach it.

We have long distance truckers, college students, oil rig workers, nurses and firefighters on revolving shifts, and every situation you can think of. It takes a lot of coordination but if the candidate cooperates it can be done. The system breaks down when he does not communicate his schedule, let us know when he is available for a make up class, does not complete homework or consult the on-line resources. For instance one of my distance learners has been in town for a month, I invite him to meet with me every week when I see him at Mass, but he makes no effort to catch up with the course. He has also missed the rites, which have been rescheduled for his convenience more than once.

Work with those who are making it their business to help you come home. and Pray.
then pray some more.

Welcome home. You can do this.

That’s what I did. I took instruction from Father W once a week. I worked evenings, so I was only free in the mornings. The days of the week would vary according to Father’s schedule.

I didn’t get to meet my fellow RCIA participants until the morning of Holy Saturday.

I work and I was worried I wouldn’t be able to do RCIA but I spoke to the priest and the RCIA leaders and they worked out where I can meet with something when it’s convenient for me.

If you look around different Church’s they have different days. The course I did was on a Sunday night from 7-10pm. I hope nobody is bothering you then!!

Welcome into the Church!!😃

Hello
Remember that RCIA is a journey in a continual conversion process. There should be no intent or pressure placed on you by anyone to meet a particular deadline. I know its prevalent and commonly thought that candidates are to be received fully into the faith each Easter. Have a conversation with the director and pastor.
Have a great day

I went through RCIA last year for confirmation. The classes started in September, and my third son was due in December. I had to miss a few classes at the end of my pregnancy and right after he was born and it wasn’t any problem at all.

Please, speak to the Pastor.

I agree with the others…speak to the priest and the RCIA director. I work a job that gives me a good bit of flexibility so I just rearranged my schedule to where I opened on Wednesdays and was able to come home and take a nap before I had to pick up my daughter from preschool. Good luck with your journey!

I have a complicated situation as well…I’m actually living in three cities throughout the course of RCIA. I have it sorted out. I am joining the RCIA class here in city #1, will not be in RCIA for about six weeks while I am in city #2 😦 then will get caught up one-on-one in city #3 and will finish RCIA and be confirmed there. So you’ll be fine 😛

I’ve found my priest very helpful/flexible so weve managed to work round stuff. Plus he is aware that those of us on the current RCIA are coming from different places so some weeks are more/less “relevant” which gives him some flexibility too. Add in some one-to-ones and it is fine. After all, the point is to get us in to heaven!

😦 So the Church I have been attending Mass at the past couple of weeks isn’t accepting any new RCIA candidates at this time…which stinks. The priest is going to call me and see about maybe starting up another class. I hope so! The other Church close to me only has classes on Saturday and as a Sales Manager at a car dealership Saturdays are impossible.
What to do , what to do!

Oh that’s a shame.

Is there a Newman center in your area? I dd my RCIA at a Newman center and we had plenty of adults in the class too. They also had late starters!
