RCIA in 2 Weeks...gulp!

Having been out of the classroom learning loop a few decades leaves me a trifle uneasy…short term memory loss…over 50…ect…yikes. Am I harboring unnecessary worry? Please help ease my mind and settle me DOWN. Thanks!
 
Hopefully it will be a great experience. take your time and don’t believe everything you hear at face value. Question it . Learn as much as possible. Don’t be in a hurryIf you dont like thier style, find a different RCIA it might fit you better.
I’ll pray for you and all the converts. You will be tested in more ways than one.

It is more than a class, it is a process, and while your mind will be challenged, the real change is happening in your heart. Go for it! I hope you will become one of the army of neophytes who plunges into the life of the Church with gusto and good will, and in my opinion will be part of the reason for new growth and holiness of the Church. Everything your parish does is for the purpose of welcoming you and your journey to becoming one with us, isn’t that exciting?
 
As long as you have the desire, there is no need to worry. Your heart will remember the lessons better than the brain.
 
Don’t worry. You will be fine. Trust me I went thru it.

Me too! I’m not worried about the classroom as much as…

I haven’t told my wife or family that I signed up. And I’ve been going to Mass a few times each week lately (without them knowing). I worry that going to RCIA class will be like Caeser crossing the Rubicon. For me, just going to RCIA classes will be a point of no turning back – even though the start of RCIA is supposed to be exploring the faith and thinking about it. I will lose some friends. I hope I won’t lose my wife. And I’d rather that my parents did not find out. But once somebody close knows, it may be out of my control.

I went to the 125th anniversary Mass of our parish yesterday morning (in its first place of worship – now a small Reformed Presbyterian Church). Some pictures were taken. I’m glad my picture wasn’t in today’s paper. A picture from the evening mass was on the front page above the fold (I didn’t go).

I want my wife to also be with me in the Catholic Church. We’ve both been praying some Catholic prayers lately. I haven’t told her yet, and she has sometimes expressed negative attitudes towards Catholics. I’m thinking like this:
  • When you buy a goldfish at WalMart (the kids recently did), you must be very careful transferring the fish to the new goldfish bowl. Otherwise it dies (2 did).
  • When transplanting a sapling tree, you must be careful. Earlier this year I tried to transplant some very small saplings. Most didn’t make it. Some survived the transplant but didn’t last the summer.
  • If you collect postage stamps (from used envelopes). You first cut out the envelope and stamp together and soak them. When they are adequately soaked, the stamp will release itself from the envelope.
 
You should do fine. A couple of years ago I had two 85 year olds in the group.
