Do I have to go through RCIA to become a Catholic and receive the Sacraments?
Just getting to mass regularly is a battle when juggling a job with mandatory weekend work and an immediate family that resents any time spent at church as time away from them, and they will not go with me. To boot, I already have 8 months of catechism in an Antiochian Orthodox church, so a lot of RCIA would just be rehashing what I already know, albeit from a Latin perspective rather than Byzantine.
I listened to a convert apologist talk about when he converted, the priest simply heard his confession, splapped some oil on his forehead and declared him Catholic. The apologist talked like that was a bad thing, but oh how I wish I could find a priest who would do exactly this with me.
This was a major stumbling block to me in my Orthodox journey, the tug of war between family and church.

Try going to their daily mass once or twice, too! Maybe you’ll meet some nice people.
