Hello!

I’m not a confirmed Roman Catholic yet but I am in RCIA. The church I’m attending is offering a 33-day retreat soon for consecration to Jesus through Mary. Would it be okay for me to do this now or should I wait till they offer it again after I’m confirmed?

My priest gave me the book they are using for it a few years ago because I told him how much I enjoyed Montfort’s works on Mary, the rosary, and Marian consecration. I also have a friend who went through this process and he has gotten a lot out of it.

I’ll probably wind up asking my priest to be extra sure that it is okay or not to attend the classes but I just wanted to see if this was a dumb question to ask or if people doing this while in RCIA was unheard of.

Thanks in advance for your (name removed by moderator)ut!

It is certainly quite unusual.

I co-taught RCIA for 3 years

I LOVE the idea [I’m a trained and certified Marian Catechist], it SHOULD IMO< come long ather RCIA and be completely voluntary

God Bless you, and Do ask Father

Patrick.

Thank you, everyone for the feedback! My parochial vicar just got back with me and said that I was more than welcome to participate.

@(name removed by moderator) I will definitely check out Father Calloway’s stuff. Thanks!

That’s wonderful. What a blessing to be totally consecrated to Jesus through Mary!

Thanks for mentioning this author again, CajunJoy. Amazingly, my regional library has both of them so I requested them.

Many blessings to you on your journey with this retreat! How special that you are beginning your path in the Catholic Faith with this beautiful devotion.

Follow-up question to the group… I am also not yet a confirmed Catholic but feel strongly led in my heart to do the 33 day retreat for Consecration to Mary. I plan to start at the end of November to prepare for the January 1st feast for the “Solemnity of Mary”. I am unclear how the actual consecration takes place. It is through the personal retreat and transformation, or is there some sacrament or ceremony that takes place? What should I do on that day? It sounds like it may be okay that I am not yet a confirmed Catholic. I was wondering about that also. Thanks for your advice! God’s blessings to all.

In the book “True Devotion to Mary” St Louis explains the reason, means and causes of a consecration as a slave to Jesus through Mary, He also explains the steps and preparations for making a consecration. It need not be a public event and can be done privately as well although having a priest as a spiritual guide for making a consecration will be good. I have known people who were so impressed by the book that they did their consecration privately as soon as they finished reading it. But its as grace dictates 🙂 I had mine privately… just attended mass and made a good confession and later did the consecration as per the prayer given by St Louis de Montfort although I did have a lay religious help me prepare for it before. 😃

Thank you for your reflections and for sharing your own experience. This really helps to clarify for me. Much appreciated! 🙂

Catch 22 … Euthyphro Dilema … do I need to fully understand Catholic teachings to understand the Marian Consecration? Or, will the Marian Consecration allow me to more fully understand the catholic views?

Both!

Go for it, it’s a wonderful journey, Oh! you might just have time to make it for Dec 8th, that’s my favorite.

Your welcome 😃 May Our Lord bless you and may Our Lady always guide you!
