RCIA/membership transfer?

So I finally got the courage to start RCIA. But the church I normally attend has already started their RCIA classes. Could/should I to RCIA at another parish (that starts this week!!) and then transfer membership? How does that work?

You can enter the RCIA/Inquiry phase at any time.

Talk to the pastor or director of the RCIA program in your parish. It may not be too late for you to join it.

RCIA is not just catechism classes but is also part of entering a church community. If you belong to one parish, you don’t want to go to some other parish for RCIA – that’s not your community.

Normal yes but it also depends on where they are in the process. I know at ours you had to be in by the time we start to dicuss all the sacarments and deeper theology… I would suggest talking to the leader of the RCIA program. they shouldn’t be too far along.

I teach RCIA and we let people join at anytime. If they miss anything they hear it the second time around.

I met with her today for the first time and of course started crying when I told her about my journey. It was emotional and I hope she didn’t think I was a blabbering idiot. For what it’s worth, our Catholic Information Center offers inquiry classes year-around. I took that class one year, but still had too many questions (the usual Protestant issues about the Papacy, Mary, etc.), so I took some time to consider these issues. The next fall, I decided to go ahead with RCIA, and they let me skip the inquiry part and join a few weeks late. So you never know until you ask. Glad you are starting, saramichelle!

As someone else said, you made her day. Most of us, anytime we can let someone else in, it really makes our day.

Yea! I’m excited for you! I remember how nervous I was for out first class. But we are one week 5 and it get lots easier! And I highly doubt you are the first person to cry when telling your story. I know we have had a couple of people cry in class and it hasn’t even been hugely personal yet.
