Hi All !

I am finally taking the first (baby) steps to joing an RCIA program in my area. I emailed the director a few days ago and I will be meeting her tomorrow. I feel like I should have a list of questions to ask her, but I’m generally not the type to have a list. Is there anything that I should really ask her? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Ask her if they use Catholicism for Dummies in their program. If not, please consider buying a copy. It is a great resource, will answer many of your questions, and will teach all of the basics of the faith.

Ask her how the Catholic faith is different from protestant faiths, and why. You could also ask what part the Pope plays in the life of an ordinary Catholic.

Best of luck, enjoy your journey! Keep us filled in, if you like.

God bless you! We’ll be praying for you!

“Peace be with you!” :signofcross:

The sacraments of the Catholic church, and your participation in the sacraments. Also, what is expected of you as a faithful Catholic.

Frankly I would not worry about it. No need for a “list of questions”.
Just tell her your desire to learn the faith with the intention of entering the Church.
She may well ask some questions of you to find out what you might already know.
You and she will likely discuss the RCIA program (where they are at currently and if you can still get in this year). She might recommend some reading for you etc.
Just respond honestly and the Holy Spirit will guide you.

And if you forget to ask something - you can always call her back…or you can certainly bring questions here and we will try to help.

God Bless you and welcome home.

Peace

Be honest and ask the questions you actually have. If you don’t have any questions – or if she answers them all as she explains about RCIA – then don’t ask any.

The most typical question I get is how long does RCIA last.

Sometimes people have questions about coming to Mass and how they can get to know when to stand, sit, kneel, and the responses and prayers they should be saying.

Ask about whatever it is that concerns you about RCIA or becoming Catholic.

One consistent thread I have noticed in these threads about RCIA is that there tend to be a lot of complaints about the quality of the program and/or leader of the program.

This must be an exciting time for you. As a cradle Catholic it is all I have known. I read posts like yours and it always makes me curious about the joys of discovery you are feeling.

My suggestion would be to go into your classes understanding that this is your faith journey and the leader is, shall we say, your guide. Not all guides will be Daniel Boone. Some might be only able to guide you around the block and no farther. For example my aunt when she started being an RCIA leader lacked confidence. After a decade or more of leading classes she is very confident in how she goes about the class.

All these people are volunteers who have a heart for God (otherwise they would not take time from their lives to lead classes). They have their strengths and weaknesses.

Also, concerning your specific question write them down in a notebook, bring them with you to the meeting and by all means ask the lady if she has time to answer a couple of questions. She might have time, she might not or she might look at the questions and realize that the answers will come in the course of the class.

Thank you all for your advice! I actually just went in with an open mind, and she was the one asking questions. Honestly, I think everything was answered for me 🙂 I can attend classes but i missed the Welcoming by one weekend, so i won’t be able to be baptized until next year. However, I can still attend classes and learn. No harm in that.

@highwayhound: i think she was incredibly enthusiastic and welcoming. I was just in awe about how beautiful the Church was, and how much lighter I feel about making this decision for myself. I wish i could bottle up the feeling and pull it out whenever i need it. Its amazing!

Hi and WELCOME!

RCIA has multiple purposes.

The first of the two halfs is just to introduce you to our basic faith beliefs and answer your questions, as they come up.Questions will just “pop up” as inspired by God or simple .
Curiosity. 🙂

The depth and varity of the lessons is somewhat limited, as we are 2,000 years young and have many beliefs and practices. Way to much to cover in the RCIA format, but sufficient for you to decise if the CC and God are what your being called too.

It will be important that you all classes; be active in class and start attending Holy Mass to get aqualited with our PRIMARY Sevice. Questions are greatly appreciated as they help the Facilators help you [and maybe others too 👍

Don’t worry about any specifis or questions. Let the Holy Spirit lead and direct you. Pray often and try to stay close to God and he WILL stay close to you.

you MIGHT be a bit behind as many [most] classes begin in late August with BTS. Let us know if we can be of help?

God bless you and pray often.
