if you are in the RCIA process you will be given the information you need about the rites you will celebrate shortly beforehand, so as not to confuse you.
to be a bit more precise than previous answers:
The rite of acceptance into the order of the catechumenate welcomes the unbaptized person, who has been in the inquiry stage for some time, into formal preparation for baptism and the other sacraments. During the rite he formally asks for this and for the first time formally accepts the gospel, and his sponsors and the rest of the assembly promise to assist and support him on his journey, and blessings and prayers are said for him. This rite is the transition into the catechumenate, the longest formal part of the process of study and faith formation. You will be asked “what do you ask of God’s Church?”
“Faith”
what does faith promise you?
“eternal life”
you will be prepared for these and the other responses so that you can make them whole-heartedly, but not until it is time for the rites.
the rite of welcoming brings a baptized inquirer into the formal preparation for confirmation, profession of faith and first communion, as a candidate. the prayers and blessings are similar but the distinction between the unbaptized and baptized is preserved when the rites are celebrated together.
