RCIA troubles

I had to take an evolution course last semester… and the prof was really good, which I was surprised by. The first lecture he basically said that evolution neither proves a “higher being” exists, nor proves it doesn’t. And he always made sure we had balanced (haha, thanks to my dissenting opinions) discussions on the different topics. 😃

There are definately crazy parallels though… we just beat photosynthesis and respiration to death in cell bio… wooooo endosymbiosis 😉 not to mention all the stupid parallel development of certain characteristics in algae (phycology)

Personally, I think He created the different “branches” if you will, and then sorta let it go from there, as opposed to having created every single species that’s ever been in existance (I don’t really feel like arguing with Genesis, anyway)… because evolution does occur, microevolution I suppose it’d be called (like with bacteria becoming resistant to antibiotics).

Darwinists convienently forget evolution is only a THEORY, and creationists convienently forget that the world is much much older than they think.

I still think all those subjects (evolution, cell bio, genetics, biochem) suck, though.

My wife and I are going to another parish this weekend. But what about the others? Should we contact our bishop? He is a very Orthodox man and should know what is going on in his archdiocese. Is our experience unique?
Yes.
Do not view this as going behind the backs of the RCIA instructors. View it as simply questioning the teachings of the instructors to a higher authority. This is in fact what higher authorities are there for. What you may accomplish in the process is the realignment of the Faith of the instructors. They may be unaware of that what they are teaching or passing on is not in line with thier very own Faith. Hopefuly they are open to this realignment (if it were to come to that). If not, this is not your problem, but the bishops.

For the people that are left in the RCIA classes you are leaving, I have two suggestions.

First, even though you are leaving, I suggest that you do complain and explain to the chain of command. Let them know what’s up and how it is doing a disservice to people who want to learn Catholic Teaching not someone’s opinion on Catholic teaching.

Second, I would give your fellow classmates a heads-up on where they can go to find authentic Catholic teaching. Let them know that if it’s not in the Catechism then it’s not official Catholic Teaching (and conversely if it’s not in Canon Law then it’s not official Catholic Practice). There are some good authors that will help out in teaching the Catechism and I would let them know about this.

Actually, I might even go as whipping up a small pamphlet with good resource listings and explainations of why they are important.

I can be sneaky 😉 so I would tell my RCIA teacher that as a personal project I came up with a list of resources (book titles, videotapes, etc) that are helpful and could I pass them out to the class? I would also stick to my guns if she shies away from allowing you to. Let her know that it has absolutely nothing contrary to Catholicism, and that the information was EXTREMELY helpful to you in your faith journey and intimacy with God. Sprinkle some nice Saints quotes in the pamphlet that the RCIA teacher might like so her radar won’t go off.
(but this is just my .02) 🙂

Actually when you ask if you can hand out your pamphlet or paper, do it infront of class. So even if she says No, people will be curious and ask you for it after class.

Hey this may be a bit sneaky and strong-armed, but I say the RCIA instructor is doing a sneaky disservice.
