Aa a little aside: If you have any paraphernalia that was used in your former practice, I would advise you to rid yourself of it. A man of my acquaintance who is just returning to the faith formerly practiced pagan rituals. He has been bothered by negative spiritual occurrences during prayer. He is destroying all of his pagan and masonic items by burning them. Burning, so that no one else may possess them and be lead astray. Spirits may be associated with or attached to those items and cause you grief - especially as you grow in faith.

I agree all things that belonged to your Wicca practices should destroyed by fire. I also think you should speak to your priest sooner than later because wicca is the opposite of Christianity. It shouldn’t prevent you from joining the church but considering your previous religious practices, he might suggest that you pray some extra prayers to help cleanse or prepare your soul for baptism. Once everything has gotten rid of, it would be a good idea to ask your priest to anoint your house, car, backyard etc with holy water and prayers to cast out any lingering spirits.

You are entering into a new life with Christ and it’s important to get rid of any evil spirits.

There may be a concern about how Wica opens the soul to Satan. Baptism will cleanse the soul of all sin, and the Scrutinies, with their exorcism aspects help to close the door, but there may be additional prayers that the priest could recommend.

Remember the parable Jesus told of the soul that had an unclean spirit that left, but it came back and brought more with it. (Matthew 12:43-45)

So being sure the door to the soul is firmly closed is a good thing!

I think I disagree with the majority of posters on this thread–it’s not a matter of it needing addressed during Confession (as any sinful aspect will be removed at Baptism), but rather, as the last couple of posts point out, a matter of closing off doors that you may not know are open. There are several kinds of demonic influence, not just demonic possession. There is oppression, for one thing. Practicing witchcraft opens a slew of opportunities for oppression and influence aside from full-on possession. I say this having been there and done that. You need to destroy all your books, jewelry, and other devices from that false religion. Just as Catholic sacramentals have the blessing to affect your spiritual life for good, all these un-sacramentals have the curse to affect your spirit to disaster. If after Baptism you still feel the burden on your heart, confess it to your priest. I would still have a private discussion, ASAP, with him on the matter, so he can give his advice on the matter, and could perform an exorcism on the spot if he feels so led. (Exorcism most commonly being very anticlimactic prayers and gestures without head-spinning or coughing up razor blades.) But the effect will be real on the state and safety of your soul. Demonic presences and oppressions and curses can linger for years, and you may always be vulnerable to some degree–having opened the doors to Satan through witchcraft, necromancy, etc., he will always know how to pick the lock. With the help of your priest through exorcism (including the rites of exorcism that accompany Baptism), his good counsel, and a solid prayer life and strong confidence and knowledge of your new, True Faith, you can by the grace of God protect yourself and remain above oppression and influence. The sin will be forgiven with your baptism; the effects of it may be something you deal with until your faith is grounded and solid. If you start to feel burdened or oppressed, remember that Jesus Christ has already defeated Satan and you belong to a greater Master than whatever may try to weaken you. Learn and use the prayer to St Michael the Archangel, and use it as your shield in battle. And don’t let guilt over your past plague you either–once you are baptised, and later once you confess, that burden is lifted from your soul and even the scar can be removed by acts of faith and charity, penance, and taking advantage of indulgences. Since Baptism signifies liberation from sin and from its instigator the devil, one of more

In CCC 1263, this eliminates the need for the sacrament of Mercy, Confession.
