This is the Rite where people who wish to go further in the process of becoming Catholic indicate so in front of their Parish and are received into what is referred to as the Order of the Catechumenate. There is usually a statement by your sponsor that you are ready to progress and then there will be a blessing of your feet, hands, ears, lips, etc. The Parish will pray for you and the Priest will give you a blessing. Then you are usually seated for the liturgy of the Word. After this point, you will no longer be referred to as Inquirers, but Catechumens instead.
This Rite is often done along with the Rite of Welcoming which is for persons who have a recognized baptism from another Christian church. It is similar in many ways to the Rite of Acceptance but afterwards the former inquirers are referred to as Candidates.
Starting at this point, Candidates and Catechumens are typically dismissed from Mass and go off into “breaking open the word” sessions where the readings are discussed in greater depth as a group. In addition, the process of how to read scripture from the Catholic perspective is presented and worked on.
The Rite of Acceptance is more significant than is sometimes brought out by the RCIA team. Following this Rite, if you were to die you would be eligible for a Christian Burial in the Catholic Church, even though you had not yet been baptized as a Christian.
Enjoy it. It is one of the many steps of the process designed to welcome you to the Church, strengthen your faith, receive God’s blessing, and allow others to pray for your continued conversion.
