In our class, they haven’t made any distinction between the Rite of Welcoming and the Rite of Acceptance. However, they did welcome us as Candidates and Catechumens after the rite so I guess that’s how they are acknowledging it. I also thought we would be dismissed after the homily but they had us all go up for a blessing during Communion. Also, this is the first time the whole group was at Mass together. I’ve only seen one person once from my class at the same service that I go to so I wondered about that dismissal part.
 
It seems like a lot of you fellow RCIAers have quite a few people in your “class”. How awesome is that?!? I am glad that we have a small group (of 2) but think that the experience would be AWESOME if we had more. And the more people that are involved in the class could potentially mean the more people that “come home”. Awesome!!
 
When I was running the RCIA program I preferred a class of 5-10 or so.

Less than 5 tended to become one-on-one. It was hard to get class interaction.

Up to 10 or 12, plus sponsors, spouses etc, could be arranged in a U format, which promoted discussion. More than that we had to go to a class room format, which again inhibited class discussion.

That may be just my style. Others may have different preferences.
 
It seems like everyone has their own style according to whoever is leading the program. Our class is large (25-35). There are also some catholic parish members that are attending to brush up on their own personal knowlege. It is hard to determine which are the brush ups, sponsors, curious, converts, reverts, confirmers, RCIA welcomers or just there for the cookies!!! 🤷.
 
Its been a while since I’ve posted on here due to work and health related issues, but today while praying the rosary before going to work I began questioning something that has been in the back of my mind the past few weeks. I started the RCIA process back in the beginning of September based upon that I felt The Holy Spirit pointing me in the right direction and that I was looking for change in my personal life (religiously and daily life). I had no idea about having a sponsor or anything like that but when I was reading ahead on some of the handouts for upcoming classes (to get ahead of course) I was thinking if I really needed to have a sponsor for the class or is it okay to continue onward to conformation alone? If I really do need a sponsor who would I need to talk to at my parish?

In most cases I am aware of, the RCIA director/team will assign a sponsor for you. However, if you have someone that you have developed a friendship with and they are a confirmed Catholic in good standing with the Church, there should be no reason that they cannot serve as your sponsor.

I would suggest asking your RCIA director. He/she will be able to guide you in the right direction.

I’ve noticed lately that my RCIA class that started in September with about 27 people is down to around 15 now, and that’s even including a few recent late-comers.

Hang in there guys!

BTW, this is a nice video summarizing the Advent season. I found it helpful when I was a candidate last year and again this year to remind myself what Advent is all about.

My first Class is Sunday, I am joining a class that has already started. I am a quick learner and will be soaking it all in. I have some serious catching up today I know.:cool:
 
Attended class today. It was a small class which was cool. It was great for asking questions. I do seem to have a pretty good grasp on things which is good for me I guess. My wife who has not been a practicing Catholic for years is ready to leave our old Protestant church now as well and wants to attend our class… 👍

We’ve been blessed. Our class of 8 has added 3 more. And we don’t even get cookies! 😃

Pretty typical I think. The RCIA process is really about discernment and learning. We had a guy who had gone through RCIA twice before he was ready to commit.
 
Just a quick update on me. I am having a amazing experience at my parish and love everything about the RCIA program. I have a longing to be a catholic now and can’t wait till Easter! I have had my fears dispelled and my hopes strengthened. Any questions I had are disappearing with every session. I have only the highest regards for my teachers and sponsor. I am falling in love with the Catholic Faith and getting closer to God while doing so. Which is the whole point of this life anyway right? I hope people are also enjoying their RCIA classes. This forum has also helped a great deal as well with on the fly questions that I have. The Catholic Faith is the real deal and I’m glad to be welcomed into it with such open arms.
