That is exactly what is needed often in RCIA. People to teach it who have been thru it and understand what is needed. I did that very thing myself.

It is a definite asset to have some who have gone through the process on the RCIA team. The rest of us may have the knowledge, but it needs one who has been through the process to see it from the recipient’s point of view. I learned a lot of the answers so long ago that I no longer remember the questions.,
 
Easter Vigil is fast approaching and I am truly excited. My RCIA class participated in the Rite of Election the First Sunday of Lent. Last weekend I attended a Catholic Men’s Conference with a group from my parish and it was so uplifting. At the conference priests were available for those who desired to do confession and so I was able to make my first confession in preparation for the Easter Vigil. Everything is going well with my class and hope that the same is true of everyone else here. God bless!

Can anyone recommend any books to supplement the catechism and the Bible? I’m thinking about Rome Sweet Home because it seems to be very highly rated. I don’t know exactly what I’m looking for, but for something to help deepen my knowledge about Catholicism and discover what other writers/acholars have to say about the subject. Thanks! Hope everyone is doing well. 👍

There are many, depending on your interests. Do you have a study Bible or a regular Bible? If a regular one, I would strongly recommend getting a study one. Catholicism for Dummies by Fr. Trigillio is excellent and I learned a good deal from it even after going through RCIA and reading the entire Catechism. Any book by Scott Hahn or Brant Pitre will be excellent as well.

SeekNFind, our RCIA group also got 2 additional books besides the Cathechism and the Bible. One is a Scott Hahn book, “A Father who keeps his Promises”, and one by Christopher West, “Good News about Sex and Marriage”. Ask your RCIA team for a reading list for other books. We were provided with a list at the beginning. Also check your local catholic book store.

I’m LOVING the Catholicism for Dummies book. It’s an easy read and reinforcing the things we learned during RCIA. I almost wish I had used it as a companion guide all along.

I have a silly question. We were discussing the examination of conscience for the part before we can be confirmed and take the communion and was thinking of what exactly defines as an examination. The deacon gave us a brochure type thing that had some questions like “have we lied or spread gossip” and stuff like that. I know my father and I have been going through some rough times (I do respect him and all but sometimes question his logic) and at some points I definitely think I have left an impression of “disobeying” my father like here recently (Tuesday) it rained pretty hard and flooded part of the house and the yards still have puddles and mud all over the place and he wants me to mow the yard but I think it would be logical to wait till it dries out to prevent damage to the lawn mower. So I spent some time yesterday thinking about the silly disagreements we’ve had and if those would be classified as being “disobedient”, even if its something stupid like when would be a good time to mow the lawn. To make the long story short, what questions would I need to ask myself to examine my conscience before going into confession.

Not a silly question at all especially from those like us who are new to the Catholic faith. If you just do a web search on “examination of conscience” you will find a wealth of helpful resources.

Have you read ’ A Biblical Walk Through the Mass - Understanding what we say and do in the liturgy’ by Edward Sri. I’ve just started it and am learning a lot.
 
The day is drawing so close and I am so excited! We have only one Sunday remaining until Easter Vigil next Saturday! It is almost too much to get my mind around the fact that tomorrow will be the last Sunday that I attend Mass without being a confirmed Catholic! 🙂

Yep, the journey home is almost complete! I have given this advice a few times on here but I think it bears repeating right before Holy Week. I encourage all of you coming into the Church to get involved in as many things as you can next week. If there is a Rosary, Prayers Session, Daily Mass, Tenebrae, etc. the more you do the more you will be brought closer to God throughout the week.
