I have read a lot of post from various people about RCIA being to long or wanting to skip RCIA altogether. I used to be one of those people. I became a new catholic this past sunday on Christ the King.It was the most awsome experience. I was already a christian and spent 13 months in RCIA.
During RCIA I frequently bemoaned to myself the lenghth of RCIA and how I wish I could just skip it. Now in retrospect I wish I had appreciated it more .My parish has wonderful caring RCIA team and the friendships I made with my fellow canidates are priceless. I feel almost a little lost knowing that I wont be meeting with my group for awhile.Mystagogy wont start until January.
I think everyone going to RCIA should just enjoy the moment.Its not just about what you may already know from reading books(I attended Catholic schools) Its about becoming part of a family with not just doctrine and faith but traditions as well. I wish all those thinking of starting RCIA or currently in RCIA all the Lords blessings. I will be praying for all of you.🙂 Happy Thanksgiving
 
Well congradulations and I’m very happy for you.
And remember to say your morning offering giving all your thoughts, actions, joys and
sorrows to Jesus thru the heart and hands of Mary. That way everything you do becomes
a beautiful prayer to Jesus and you will be “praying always” thru out the day.

Welcome and congratulations! RCIA can seem interminable, but in the end, it’s worth the wait.
 
Mystagogy? What is this?

I was never so happy as the day my RCIA classes ended. 🙂 Not only because I was Catholic but because I wouldn’t have to sit through the most vacant bible study I’ve ever experienced. BUT I did make several friends in the parish and I am appreciative for that.

I’m curious about what you mean about “vacant bible study” - Were you required to participate in the Breaking Open the Word with the catechumens? If so, how was it “vacant”? Did you not receive instruction in the faith and moral teachings? Did not that trigger a greater desire within you to learn even more about the faith on your own? Were you already well-catechized prior to participating in RCIA? Inquiring minds want to know. 🙂

I’ve ranted this out all over caf. haha. long story short i was the only baptized, lifelong christian in a room full of poorly catechized catholics and new christians. our instructor liked go make us stare at scripture until it ‘meant’ something to us (what a painful process for everyone, full of long silences). and the questions i did have were either completely ignored (they were too theological in nature i was told) or answered very poorly.

but what is that big m word? haha.
