Good day to all i just want to know if the ancient eastern catholic church under patriarch Mar addai II status. Are they in communion with rome? Are they a part of the 22 canonical churches with valid priestly ordination and sacraments? please help me with this concern God bless everyone:)

It would seem that the church you’re referring to under Patriarch Mar addai II is the Chaldean Catholic Church, which is in union with Rome.

Is this what you were looking for?

No, the Ancient Church of the East is not in full communion with the Catholic Church. The Assyrian Church of the East split to form an additional church in 1964 called the Ancient Church of the East. However, the Chaldean Catholic Church (Patriarch Louis Raphaël I Sako) was formed through a re-union with Rome in 1681 from the Assyrian Church of the East.

thanks for your reply i just want to clarify your answer becouse you said that they are not in communion with the catholic church does it mean that their sacrament and holy orders are invalid or you mean to say that they are not in communion with rome or the western rite church

Not in full communion with Rome nor with the Assyrian Church of the East. Also the divide between the* Ancient Church of the East* (Mar Addai II with 100,000 members) and the Assyrian Church of the East (Mar Dinkha IV, with 400,000–500,00 members) is not yet healed.

“Although the rift has not yet been healed, recent meetings between bishops of the two sides appear to have made substantial progress towards resolving the dispute. Currently Mar Dinkha’s side has twelve bishops and Mar Addai’s side has seven bishops.” – CNEWA

However Mar Dinkha IV and Pope John Paul II signed a Common Christological Declaration in 1994 which is useful particularly for the Chaldean Catholic Church and the Assyrian Church of the East. I do not know of any talks between the Ancient Church of the East and the Roman Catholic Church.

There are four Churches which worship according to the East Syriac Rite - two are in full communion with Rome and two are not - but all four have “valid” sacraments / apostolic succession:

The Chaldean Catholic Church - in communion with Rome
The Syro-Malabar Catholic Church - in communion with Rome
The Assyrian Church of the East - not in full communion but there is an agreement for limited inter-communion under certain circumstances
The Ancient
Church of the East - not in full communion, no inter-communion agreement to my knowledge

The Chaldean, Assyrian, and Ancient Churches of the East are very small. The largest East Syriac Church by far is the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church which is primarily based out of India.

There’s actually a 5th: the Chaldean Syrian Church in Kerala. It’s small (maybe some 15k people) and is an autonomous branch of the Assyrian Church of the East, so it’s obviously not in communion with Rome. It has its own Metropilitan, but recognizes Mar Dinkha IV of the ACoE as Catholicos-Patriarch. A decent Wikipedia primer can be found here and their own homepage can be found here
