Re- baptised?

I’m hoping to go back to CCD this year to prepare for my confirmation.

I had called my local parish last year, but they said it was too late to register and that I’d have to wait until July of this year. They also mentioned that I need my baptism certificate. I asked if my first communion certificate was alright to use, but they said no and that I need to show them my baptism certificate.

Thing is, my mom misplaced my baptism certificate! So what will I have to do now if I cant find it? Its not like I can go back to the Church I was baptised at because I wasn’t baptized in the United Sates. What will happen? Will I have to get re- baptized? Thanks for your help.

Write (or email) the parish where you were baptised and ask for a copy to be sent to you asap. Explain why.

Go to a Search Engine (ie Google) and try and find the parish online if it is there. Otherwise write to the Bishop of the Diocese with the request to be forwarded.

Write to the Church where you were baptized and request a copy of your Baptismal record to be mailed in your name to your parish church (warn the secretarial staff that you are doing this, so that they will hold on to it for you).

If you were baptized in the Catholic Church, this will be very easy to do. They just need to know what your name was at the time of your birth, your birth date, and the approximate time period when you think you were baptized, if it wasn’t directly after birth.

I was able to get a baptismal record for someone in this situation recently, and it took less than a week to arrive.

My RCIA leader told our class that if we couldn’t get a actual baptismal certificate (in the case of a church not existing anymore, or being unable to contact it), that we might be able to get a witness to the baptism to write a letter validating that we had in fact been baptised.

Not sure if this is okay in all parishes, though.

Baptismal records are required for First Communion, so your baptismal records may already be on file at the parish where you received First Commuion. Check with them too.
