Re-doing a rosary decade

I’ve found myself occasionally losing my place on the string and then wondering, “Hmmm, was that really 10 Hail Mary’s in that decade?” If I lose count, I just say another one or two just to be sure I’ve said the whole decade, then continue on as usual.

Since I usually say the Rosary with a group in the chapel after morning Mass, it’s much easier to keep count but when I say it alone, I tend to miscount a bit more-- not on purpose, of course, but I have 3 cats who like to “pray” along with me and shutting them out of the room would be more distracting than just letting them in… “MEOWING” and door-banging, they can be very persistent and NOISY (the Siamese boy, especially!)!

Hmmm… does that make them “Cat’lics”?

Padre Pio once said that if he had to restart the Rosary every time he made a mistake he would never finish it.
You don’t have to restart it. Follow Padre Pio’s advice and simply continue.

My mind can wander during the rosary, also. When it happens and I realize I’ve prayed 1-2 Hail Mary’s totally thinking about something else I say “excuse me, Lord” or “oops, I’m sorry” and get re-focused and just keep going.

I think He and Blessed Mother are just happy we are praying, and totally understand how our minds can be cluttered with stuff.

Hi , This is my first post! I am a full time primary school headteacher and mother of 6 children of my own- I often find myself falling asleep whilst praying the rosary or struggling to keep focussed- often praying late in the evening is the only time which is when I have a quiet moment to pray alone. Thankyou for so many reassuring posts- I especially liked the quote from Padre Pio and from the poster who mentioned that if we fall asleep during rosary prayer we are actually sleeping in the loving presence of Our Lady. I have often felt guilty about it before as somehow being disrespectful or lacking in fidelity- maybe I should count my blessings of a rich and busy family and working life and rest easier!

Today, I was praying my rosary when my mind began to wander. I didn’t realize that I wasn’t meditating on the mystery until I had finished the decade. So I decided to re-do that decade and do it correctly, and then move on. Was the rosary still valid as a whole?

I would say that it was still valid. I tend to re-do the decade if my mind wanders.
