From this article, I read that a demon that attacks the family has been found to be present during exorcisms, many times over (according to world-renowned exorcists); however, I have read from sources in the past, that demons fear being exorcised because once they have been exorcised, they can’t come back?!

I believe that a full exorcism is different to that of deliverance ministry and prayers because an exorcism is more powerful and so I would say the latter method is more in tune with the Bible passage that speaks of demons returning to a person.

So, what is the correct knowledge, please?

Demons are probably related to pre-existing mental issues, how sure are the exorcists that the entity they are expunging is the same as in previous cases? The church says it’s real, but I am admittedly a real skeptic on this one…will be interested to the answers!

I thought this topic might remain unanswered! 😃

Do you mean that you are skeptical about the reality of demons?

I think they exist, but many of the diagnoses of demons may be simple chemical imbalances. I Always remain open. But I’m not real eager to find out on this particular topic! Which may explain the dearth of responses 🙂

If you put Tr*mp in your title, you’ll get responses 🙂

I’m not sure that this part of your question is true. Demons have free will. God doesn’t take that away.

For T-zooks:

Heavenly Father, in the name of your only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, I denounce Satan and all his works, all forms of witchcraft, the use of divination, the practice of sorcery, dealing with mediums, channeling with spirit guides, the Ouija board, astrology, Reiki, hypnosis, automatic writing, horoscopes, numerology, all types of fortune telling, palm readings, levitation, and anything else associated with the occult or Satan. I denounce and forsake my involvement in all of them in the name of Jesus Christ who came in the flesh, and by the power of his cross, his blood and his resurrection, I break their hold over my life.

I confess all these sins before you and ask you to cleanse and forgive me. I forgive myself and ask you Lord Jesus to enter my heart and create in me the kind of person you have intended me to be. I ask you to send forth the gifts of your Holy Spirit to baptize me, just as you baptized your disciples on the day of Pentecost.

I thank you heavenly Father for strengthening my inner spirit with the power of your Holy Spirit, so that Christ may dwell in my heart. Through faith, rooted and grounded in love, may I be able to comprehend with all the saints, the breadth, length, height and depth of Christ’s love which surpasses all understanding. Amen.

Likewise, this is what I am questioning.

I definitely either heard on a Catholic Radio station or on an article with an exorcist that demons fear being exorcised because once sent to Hell they can’t come back and yet that info. contradicts what I read in the source referenced. I have been trying to find the article where I read this. Might have to listen to some recorded radio interviews to find the source.

I suspect the problem comes when we try to apply the concept of time in the spiritual world. We want to think that a demon has been cast into the abyss or sent to the foot of the cross and from then on, will not be able possess anyone. “From then on” has no relevance to the spiritual world because spirits exist outside of time.

Huh? I can understand some of the other things you listed, but what’s wrong with levitation? It has all kinds of practical applications, from transportation to medicine.
Paragraph 236.45 of the Shadow Proclamation…no floating unless in water! 🙂

I can’t speak to Catholic teaching about permanent exorcism, but the particular demon mentioned has been in common use by magicians for hundreds of years.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asmodeus
This is one of many demons but possibly a more powerful one. There are various levels of strength and superiority. It is more the case, however, that demons use magicians, or, once the person practicing the occult opens a doorway, then this gives the demon access to influence the person practicing. Many people wouldn’t necessarily know that they were under the influence of demon/s, but when it gets to the stage of oppression, obsession, possession, then the person would become aware that something is wrong. Activity is more dangerous, in a way, to those who are not religious, because they don’t understand the negative influence that demonic activity can induce, in their own lives and for those around them, and this is because they don’t understand the wider background to demonic activity, and therefore, have nothing to pull them back. They don’t understand in proper depth what it is that is influencing them - only a vague awareness of something supernatural - and why it is that the entity is influencing them. It is almost as if they believe demonic power comes from themselves from beginning to end rather than realising that they can hand power to the demon. If they knew otherwise, which would take some enlightenment, then they would possibly stop.

So, IOW, they communicate themselves from Hell?

Thing to consider, if there wasn’t some limit put upon demons’ powers of movement/communication, or however we describe supernatural interaction with humankind, then what would be the point of an exorcism if they could just come back again; if they could simply return to different people, then surely they could return to the same person over and over - there has to be some permanent effect incurred from the exorcism.

I think its probably the other way around…pre existing mental issues are probably related to demonic activity and its only the world that has ‘explained’ the demons out of it.

Think about it, if satans greatest trick was to convince mankind he does not exist, wouldnt it be safe to assume to he ‘disguises’ his methods in things just like this and the secular world backing him up with ‘scientific findings’?

I tend to think those people in centuries past were right all along, demons are the cause of many of these problems and likely much more that we do not recognize, if they are truly that much more intelligent than us, successfully fooling us should be expected.

Right! 👍

Right. Sorry. Asmodeus. He’s an awesome demon.
Splitting up families is awesome? I get it that you don’t believe they exist.
Personally, I think that demons are just part of the human collective unconscious, but that view is in no way universal among occultists.
It is no way universal.

The use of words like “permanent” are really not applicable, in as much as they have a reference to time. Be assured, there is an effect. The demons can go after different people or the same people, except for interference from God through His angels, grace, etc.

I don’t know whether this is plausible if we think in terms of powers and dominions. I could possibly envisage more powerful demons - not that far below satan - being able to apply themselves again and again, but not lower rank ones. Power in Hellish terms could be deduced as such: the ‘free’ movement of demons and souls (or lack of it). Or, for reasons of being more exacting: ‘free’ application of… It could be that communication can be cut ‘decisively’ - possibly a more precise word than “permanent”; grace itself, decisively restricting a certain demon’s abilities to apply itself to people.

I really think this is an ‘ask the exorcist’ moment. My thought would be that perhaps they are banished to hell and barred from that person; or perhaps they are barred for a time.

I believe I’ve read also that these sort of things happen only with the allowance of God’s will; and that this happens rarely. So it may be that Demon X once exorcised has served whatever purpose God wanted by being allowed to attack the person in the first place (hopefully waking that person, and those around him, up to the need for salvation). At that point, God wouldn’t allow the Demon to come back.

But this is just my thoughts.

The idea of possession terrifies me; oppression maybe more; because from what I’ve read it might be more subtle. I try to regularly say the St. Michael prayer.
