Should a priest tell a spouse about an unfaithful spouse? I’d have to say yes, after doing everything possible to have the unfaithful spouse to confess to the innocent spouse. If a priest knows, and does not reveal it to the innocent spouse, he could be encouraging, in an indirect way, the unfaithful spouse to continue in his/her sin.

Billy,

Is this a hypothetical?

Filing for separation is not divorce…

A good father does not wrong the mother of his children

The prodigal son is the same story…and it will require grace for the husband to see himself as the son and the wife to see herself as the father…until then they should do what is in the best interest of their children.

Does a priest have an obligation to tell the spouse if he knows them of the affair or is it up to the spouse to come clean to the spouse instead?
If “knowing” only comes from information in the Confession then NO the priest can never tell. If its information discussed outside the Confessional, then yes. He can and should tell the other party. They can be exposed to STD’s and living a lie is wrong…that partner has a right to know.
