I would like to hear from those living in Ireland about your thoughts on what will be the outcome of the referendum on marriage equality later this May. What are the discussions going on etc.? I have been following it in the news, however, I am sure living there you may have an insight that outsiders and pollsters may not have.
My personal view is that it won’t pass. I have always thought of Ireland as fairly conservative and it seems that this would be something out of the ordinary. But then I could be wrong.

It really depends on the core values transmitted in the homes and schools. I don’t know about Ireland but these have been steadily whittled down by secular education anywhere else in the Western world.

The old generation was socially conservative I suppose, but they are fading or have faded away. I don’t live in Ireland however so all I can offer is a general impression. I think something about the “Celtic tiger” years washed away a lot of Ireland’s distinctiveness.
