Damascus,

Not to worry. I saw your warning and knew it would be nearly useless to tangle with nut cases, but it’s fun sometimes.

Where did you get that great picture of Jesus’ baptism?

CDL
You call us the nutcases when you’re the one who has to be willing to die merely to discuss religion with someone of another faith?

pardon my heathenistic view of it being rediculous to be afraid of someone due to ethnicity. I guess I just didn’t understand how it’s okay to be afraid of other kinds of people. I guess it makes me a heathen to welcome people of all religions and races (as long as they are tolerant of otehrs likewise) and to count among my friends a great variety of races and religions.
I guess it makes us more heathenistic due to the fact that we discuss religion and concede points on a regular basis.

When i flew to Korea a couple months ago I sat next to an Arabic Muslim who actually expressed to me how nice it weas to have someone to talk to that didn’t seem scared of him or hateful of him simply due to color of skin and dress. I could never understand why people have to live in such disgrace, kicked at and spit on wherever they go simply because they share a race or religion with a terrorist.

Now I understand, I’m a nutcase, someone that doesn’t understand the way the world works. If being a nutcase heathen means I am free to not be afraid of and distance myself from a certain race, creed, or belief than I’m glad I left Christianity long ago. Spread your message of fear and mistrust being okay, I’ll spread my message of love and acceptance, much the same message I believe Jesus preached throughout all four gospels.

Damascus:
I am not chastizing you but to ask you to be the open minded person you claim to be.
You’re not asking me to be open-minded, you’re asking me to agree with you more.
Tell me, how should Eden respond if you were in her shoes?
Calmly, politely, and having thought out her arguments well?
I respect your difference but I do not want to see you attack Eden (who can defend herself nicely without any help) but I feel awful for her now since you are merely talking over her and not listening anymore.
She’s moved on to attacking me and I am mostly defending my arguments now. I’m talking over her? I haven’t dismissed a single thing she says as irrelevant, while she’s done exactly that to multiple points I’ve made.
She has strong convictions, but they are the convictions of her faith, of my faith, that even if you dont agree are convictions we hold to our hearts, souls, minds and bodies.
Well, good for you both 😉
If Christians had held your views, I really wonder if we would even exist now.
Now that’s just offensive.
Please think about that. You may not like us, but we have just as much right to Love who we do as you do.
I’m still waiting to be pointed to where I said otherwise.

Eden:
How is the OP a “bigot”? What gives you the idea that the OP is intolerant of any opinions differing from their own or that they are someone with prejudice carried to the extreme of overt hatred, possibly carried to the point of violence? The OP simply stated that they were uncomfortable going to the home - they were still open enough to go to the home not knowing the religious beliefs of the family but they were admitting to a genuine fear and a genuine relief. I think you need to restrict the accusations of “bigot” to people who really are instead of watering down the word’s meaning by crying “bigot” unjustly.
When tskal managed to suppress xenophobia enough to allow his child to go to the party, no, no crime was committed. Neither was it especially virtuous though - only a thief congratulates himself for NOT stealing. And to expect praise and admiration for it from others is at the very least tasteless. And that is the line I really think was crossed.

If one isn’t prepared to hear answers that one doesn’t wish to hear, perhaps one should not ask the question in public.
I don’t agree that your examples are even similar. Large groups of Islamic extremists intent on carrying out mass murder through organized sleeper cells sent to Europe and the United States who live among us waiting for the call to carry out their terrorist attacks and a mentally ill mathematics genius living in the wilderness who sent some mail bombs out before being turned in by his brother are similar how?
They both were terrorists?
You don’t think accusing someone of bigotry is a condemnation?
He asked if he was over the line. I said yes. Further, I explicitly stated I was condemning the attitude, not the person.
Are you now going to suggest that fear is a hate crime?
I suggest that it is unwise, unnecessary, inspires immoral behavior, and is generally contrary to living well.
What terrorists in the Western attacks wore robes?
You realize you’re agreeing with me now? I said they dressed like Americans and that there’s no typical terrorist ‘look’. If you’ve got a copy of al-Vogue or Elle-Qaida (hurr, I slay me sometimes) I’d love to see it 😃
