Beyond Capitalism and Socialism: A New Statement of an Old Ideal, a collection of essays advancing the Catholic social doctrine – which is what ignited my admiration of the Church.

Salem Falls by jodi piccoult. Also, Crossing the Threshold of Hope by JPII.

At the recommendation of a holy priest, I am reading “Selected Works of Joseph Cardinal Bernardin”.
(Homilies and Teaching Documents).

GARDEN OF LETTERS by Alyson Richman
I am also a fan of James Patterson and Lisa Jackson:):

Sacred Reading: The Ancient Art of Lectio Divina by Michael Casey

The Life and Times of Frederick Douglass, by Frederick Douglass.
Also, finishing the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins.

I read the first one years back based upon a recommendation by a friend. I liked it, but afterwards had no intention of reading the rest.

My wife insisted I watching the movie with her last weekend. It was intriguing so I decided maybe I’ll read the books after all.

The Girl Who Came Home by Hazel Gaynor. A novel of the Titanic.

(She is an Irish Catholic girl:thumbsup:)

I decided I wanted to get depressed, so I am reading Salt, Sugar, Fat by Michael Moss (not moore). It is about how processed food is designed.

I’m also reading Havana Storm by Clive Cussler, because – well I can’t resist Dirk Pitt novels 😊

For those of you who like to read Nicholas Sparks, may I suggest you read
THE BEST OF ME. It is a page turner and will make you laugh, cry and think of how we
should treasure life and memories. I loved this book. I am now reading THE GARDEN OF
LETTERS by Alyson Richman. It is about a young girl in war time Italy trying to survive the
last days of WW11. Wonderfully written. Not to be missed.
I am also a fan of James Patterson and Lisa Jackson. Patterson’s ZOO is also not to be
missed. I also like autobiography books. Just finished one by Paul Anka where he gives
quite an account of the OLD VEGAS and the SINATRA group. Very interesting. I get a lot
of books at our local GOODWILL store. Try it. You do good for others and get a bargain.:)👍

Triumph: The Power and the Glory of the Catholic Church, by H.W. Crocker.
This is a super interesting look at the history of the church, not dry at all but fascinating,. Recommended for anyone who’s ever wondered what happened between the gospels and the twentieth century.

Haftarot, Jewish publication society. this is a Jewish exposition of the prophetic readings in ordinary and special synagogue services that corresponds to each “torah portion” read on specific days, according to a regular annual cycle.

the general pattern is doom and gloom and exile, followed by divine restoration.

It was only my pressing need to work on the church newsletter that enabled me to put down Joseph Pearce’s Race with the Devil: My Journey from Racial Hatred to Rational Love, detailing his conversion from neo-Nazi to Catholic literary critic. Utterly gripping stuff; I’m especially enjoying it because his initial engagement with the Church is the same as mine: the social doctrine.
