Hi Folks:

On the Non-Catholic Religions Page we have a discussion going about the Baha’i Faith. In checking my favrites and ‘googling’ the topic I found a link to an article which attempts to appropriate Mormon prophecies by Joseph Smith and suggest that these were a fore-telling of the coming of Baha’u’llah and of the Baha’i Faith. Are any LDS here familiar with this? Are any, Catholics or Mormons, convinced that these prophecies in any way confirm the ‘seer’ status of Joseph Smith? (Many Baha’is believe that Smith was a ‘seer’ but not a genuine ‘prophet’ or what they might deem a ‘Manifestation’). Does anyone feel the convergence of these prophecies with the emergence of the Baha’i Faith are simple coincidence, or is something else going on here? For your convenience here is the link to the article in question:

And here is the link to D & C 130: 12-17 and D & C 87, on which the article is based.

I figured a poll would make this topic more attractive. Hopefully most folks read before they voted.

As a Baha’i let me make a few comments here…

Flameburn has been very kind to invite some Baha’is to respond to an informational topic Baha’i Faith here on the Catholic Answers Forums under the non-Cathjolic religion category.

It’s true there are some Baha’is who believe there are prophecies by Joseph Smith that are supposed to allude to Baha’i Faith but let me stress here that is not an official position of our Faith. The prophecy fulfilled site posted by Flameburn is not an official Baha’i site.

Baha’is regard Joseph Smith as a “seer”.

Historically there are some interesting points though I think when considering Mormon and Baha’i history. Joseph Smith was attacked by a mob and killed in 1844 soon after the Bab in Shiraz Persia declared His Mission on May 23, 1844.

Baha’is respect many of the aspects of Mormon life such as communal assistance in time of need and morality.

Saying that I’ll end my little note.

Art: my apologies to you and the other Baha’is who have graciously popped in here to answer questions. I hope there was no offense given by the link I posted or by this thread.

No problemo Flameburns!

I note the LDS site is very slow to process my application to register though…
