Do you really think that the Protestants ignore the Old Testament?
Do you think that Protestant do’nt understand types and anti-types in the OT and NT. Get with it girls, they are not a bunch of dummies.

:blessyou: for coming onto this website.

One of the reasons we sometimes think that protestants dont look too far into the OT is that they seem to be ignorant of the links between it and the NT. For example, the mother of the King was called the Queen, as opposed to the wife (its somewhere in Kings). Which happens to tie in nicely with Catholic Dogma. (good ol Catholic Answers radio, 🙂 ).

Most of the protestants I have met seem to be very ignorant of the OT, and those who know it seem to try and comprehend it without putting themselves in the mindset of the ancient Jewish faith. A lot also do the same for the NT, or like the website shown on this thread, take it too far, thinking they can decide for themselves what happened all those years ago.

The reason it was suggested to delve into the OT is probably because most protestants dont have a preconcieved bias towards most of its passages, as happens when theology such as OSAS is taught in light of the NT.

We are only interested in showing the Truth to all. Please don’t take any of it as bad manners, or a lack of charity.

We love all people, and all are welcome to the feast of Christ (quite literally, hehe, in Communion).

In Christ.

Magic Silence–read my third reply. The person had misunderstood me. I meant the opposite. HA! Things like that happen on the internet—where we lack access to body language and voice inflection. I’ve misunderstood people, too.

Protestants I’ve met KNOW the whole bible OT and NT and that is why we should use the whole bible in evangelizing to them.

Just a thought on this…I agree with you wholeheartedly GoldenArrow, but to take it a step further, might I suggest that it is just as important to put the Scriptures in the context of culture ?

Many of the things that would have been plainly understood by Jews during the period of time are pretty much overlooked by people today when they dissect Scripture. The notion of “Mary, Queen of Heaven” comes to mind immediately here. To understand the cultural concept of “Queen Mother” is essential to resolving this alot of Marian Dogma.

Another thing I want to offer is the basic concept of the Word of God. Almost any Protestant I know speaks of the Word of God in reference to the Scripture. Catholics however have a very different view of things, for the Word of God is not a THING but rather a SOMEONE (JESUS HIMSELF). The “Word of God” is contained throughout all of Scripture, because all of Sacred Scripture (New and O.T.) points to Jesus, but the Word of God is not really the Bible, but rather Christ himself.

I guess the point Im trying to make here is that the differences between Catholicism and Protestantism arent merely doctrinal; there are very fundamental differences in mindset.

Correction, it’s EVERYWHERE in Kings. You’ll also find where the Queen had some power and authority, too.

What I’ve found is that many Protestants understand Typology very well, except where it leads to Catholic Teaching, such as the Queen Mother Type. Then we’re just reading too much into the Old Testament.

I have a feeling, if the shoe were on the other foot, I’d be doing the same thing.

Notworthy

P.S. Of course, I’ve also found that, if the shoe were on the other foot, my foot would hurt. But that’s not relevant.🙂

There you go again, just assuming something about protestants.
Of course we know the the defferance between the written Word of God and the Word that became flesh.
