Questions for everyone:

How often do you read the Bible? Every day, few times a week, one a week? More? Less?

Do you ‘‘study’’ the Bible - do you read, reflect, then read commentaries on what you just read, make notes etc?

Do you try to learn scripture off by heart?

Do you carry a Bible with you everywhere you go?

Have you different bibles and versions thereof?

Is it important to you to read the Bible regularly? Or do you just occasionally dip into it?

If you have commentaries, what ones have you fod most useful?

Just curious - that’s all.

I try to do it whenever I can. Sorry if that answer’s a bit vague, but it’s true 🙂 I’ve been reading a lot of the Psalms lately.

Often for my blog posts - they’re sometimes more for myself than others.
Do you try to learn scripture off by heart?
Oh yes. Mostly ones that can help me in argumentation, such as parts of John 8 or John 14:6.
Do you carry a Bible with you everywhere you go?
Either the Bible or the Book of Psalms.
Have you different bibles and versions thereof?
I have the NKJV, the KJV, the NASB, the NIV, the Jewish Bible, the UBS Greek NT, and an interlinear Hebrew/Greek/KJV. I recently purchased an NAB translation.

I think it’s important to really understand the context of certain passages and stories, because too often we rely on cliffnotes or what other people say.
If you have commentaries, what ones have you fod most useful?
I go straight to the masters: the Church Fathers. I know Saint John Chrysostom’s commentaries are readily available online, especially at the newadvent website.

About once a week. I’m trying to reread the entire Bible now (started yesterday). Need to get away from this forum. 😃

Yes, and I’m trying to do that more now.
Do you try to learn scripture off by heart?
If I find a passage that I like. Otherwise, no, I don’t try to memorize.
Do you carry a Bible with you everywhere you go?
No, I can always look up a passage online.
Have you different bibles and versions thereof?
Yes, mostly from gifts.

Previously I occasionally read it, especially since we go through the Bible in Mass. Now I’m make it more regular.

Just curious - that’s all.

I read the Bible everyday by reading the daily Mass readings (2 reading and a Psalm) and I pray the Liturgy of the Hours every day (in the morning and the evening) which also includes Psalms, readings from the New Testament and prayers.

I also study the Bible during the week with commentaries (I lead a Bible Study group at Church).

I don’t try to memorize a few verses here and there, and I don’t quote verse numbers, I try and read whole Chapters of a book (or the whole Book) so I can get the context of the individual verses. Through the Liturgy of the hours, there are some passages of the New Testament that over time and prayer that I can recite by heart (and of course Psalm 23).

I keep a Bible in my car at all times, so that if the opportunity arises, I will have one with me.

I have many different versions (including all 8 Catholic versions) of the Bible.

I think it is important to read or pray the Bible everyday, it is a great way to start the morning before I go to work.

I have four different commentaries (Navarre, the International Bible Commentary, the Collegeville Commentary and the Oxford Bible Commentary). Plus I have numerous Study Bibles. They are all useful, you get different perspectives on a passage of scripture from the different commentaries. I use all of them for Bible Study.

I think I answered all the questions.

3 or more times a week.
Yes.
I don’t usually try, but it happens.
No.
Yes.
Yes.No.
In general, I’m an equal opportunity commentary user but I do avoid Scofield.
