Reading blasphemous literature

is it a sin to read literature that profanes/hurts/desecrates is malicious toward God? i was bored and started reading a blasphemous comic book that was denied Jesus divinity and made up heretical stories about him.then i was reading heretical points of view
 
The problem is not READING it; the problem is BELEIVING it.
 
Even though I do not believe in the concept of sin (being a former Catholic now non-religious), I can only say if you think or believe it is coming between you and your God - or that it threatens your faith in some way - then perhaps it would be best to not read such things.🙂

Writing blasphemous literature would be a mortal sin- as would intentionally buying or selling it, because you are actively contributing to its publication. Just reading it might only be a venial sin, unless you are causing scandal or are influencing others to read it by reading it where other people can see what you are reading. Still, if you love God, don’t read it. Say someone wrote letters to a friend about how much they hated someone- would it be appropriate for the hated person’s loved ones to read it and enjoy reading it? It would not be appropriate- and it would completely go against who we are as human beings to treat a loved one that way. If you were to read blasphemous literature having a clear understanding of this, it would be a mortal sin.
 
Why would you ever want to read such things? In my mind, knowingly reading a book that I knew to be blasphemous would be little different than knowingly attending a satanic black mass. I’d never do the latter. So why would I do the former?

I think you generally have the right idea, but a black mass involves actually, physically desecrating a consecrated host. Reading blasphemous literature, as bad as it is, is not blasphemous in nearly as tangible a way.
