Would anyone be interested in an exchange about a specific book on Catholic spirituality? I was thinking of people maybe reading the book and discussing one chapter at a time.

Has anyone used these forums for this purpose before?

I believe that the policy of the forums is not to ask for member’s address. Exchanging book requires one to give out his home address. You might want to ask Moderator to make sure that you are allowed to do so.

I once offered free Bible, but it was against the policy.

To clarify, I was thinking about posting thoughts about any chosen book on this forum, not via private mail or email.

You may have thought of exchanging physical books. I was thinking of reading an agreed-upon book and exchanging ideas about it.

oops. Yeah, that was what I thought. I am sorry about that.

I don’t read many books, but the only two books that I read are: the Bible and the Diary of St. Faustina.

Hi JKnits,

Hi from a fellow knitter! And a fellow convert! (I came into the church in late 1990.) I notice you are from Indiana; my grandfather came from there.

Did you have any ideas about where to start?

Water, I was wondering if you’d ever read or listened to Scott Hahn. Every time I view or read his material it opens up a better way of understanding the Bible than I could ever have achived on my own. But I find that when I try to just read the Bible by itself, my understanding is poor. Dr. Hahn is, of course, just one example of many good writers out there who can help “unpack” scripture.

God Bless,
Joan

If you look in the archives, there was to be a book club forum. I don’t know why they got read of it. But to answer your question, Yes these forums were used at one point to do exactly what you are talking about.

I’m hoping to get something going here, so I will go into Ignatius today and see if I can’t suggest a title or two to see if anyone is still interested.

God bless.

Joan,

We have a bit in common, don’t we? 🙂

I really don’t have any ideas as to where to start. I do have Rome Sweet Home by Scott Hahn and I have only read a few pages of it. Right now I am on the last few chapters of Padre Pio: A Man of Hope by Renzo Allegri.

Have you ever read any of Fr. Groeschel’s work? It’s fabulous. He has a new one out entitled The Virtue Driven Life.

Anyway…wherever you want to start is fine with me. I like reading anything that is going to teach me about my faith. You can never know too much! 🙂

I am up for Father Groschel’s book. If everyone agrees, we can go to buy it on Amazon, Ignatius or wherever.

I’ll try to participate, as well. Is The Virtue Driven Life like a Catholic response to The Purpose Driven Life?

I’m supposing everything is settled, and I will buy the book now. We should get back with each other within the next day or two to establish when we’ll all have the first chapter read.

I’m looking forward to this! It will be great to exchange reading and ideas with you all.

God Bless,
Joan

Joan,

Great! Thanks for setting all of this up. I think it will be a lot of fun.

Hi everyone!

I am not too sure when Amazon will be sending my book. I will post to this thread as soon as I get it, so we can plan when to have the first chapter read.

If anyone else has bought this book via internet and is also waiting to get it, maybe you could leave a post so we know you are there? I would be happy to give a little extra time to anyone who had to wait.

A Mother’s Rule of Life was done as a book study before the Great Forums Shutdown. It was lost into the void.

One of the moderators made it a sticky, so it was easier to access.

I’ve already read the first chapter, but am willing to wait however long it takes for everyone else to get their copies. 🙂 I like how the book it set up - at the end of each chapter there are some questions for reflection and there is also a prayer.

If you end up liking this book and would be interested in reading more of Fr. Groeschel’s work, I would recommend ordering them directly from the friar’s website: franciscanfriars.com/books/benedict_books.htm

You wouldn’t have been able to order the new one through their site, though, as it is not yet offered.
