In desperation, I know of many Catholics seeking people who seem to be able to read into their lives using a deck of playing cards. (Can this be something other than from the evil spirit?)

Can you enlighten me on the Catholic Church’s Position vis-a-vis Scripture and Tradintion.

Is this identical to “divination” in the Scriptures"

(Note: divination, which reflects a world view in which supernatural powers other than God are in control, was later forbidden to Israel. See Lev.19:26,31.)
3**1 ** "'Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God. (NIV)

Deut 18:1414 The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do so.(NIV)

Catechism of the Catholic lChurch

2116 All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to “unveil” the future. Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.

2117 All practices of magic or sorcery, by which one attempts to tame occult powers, so as to place them at one’s service and have a supernatural power over others - even if this were for the sake of restoring their health - are gravely contrary to the virtue of religion. These practices are even more to be condemned when accompanied by the intention of harming someone, or when they have recourse to the intervention of demons. Wearing charms is also reprehensible. Spiritism often implies divination or magical practices; the Church for her part warns the faithful against it. Recourse to so-called traditional cures does not justify either the invocation of evil powers or the exploitation of another’s credulity.

2138 Superstition is a departure from the worship that we give to the true God. It is manifested in idolatry, as well as in various forms of divination and magic.

if you are talking about fortune telling using regular cards or tarot cards, yes it is specifically forbidden in sacred scripture and in definitive church teaching as elaborated in the CCC cite. that is the meaning of divination, human beings claiming to have knowledge, or seeking knowledge, that belongs only to God.

Sorry for the typo error on the THREAD title
reading “People’s live” should read ""People;s LIFE" i.e. past events and into the future
