Reading teachers balk at condom lesson for middle-schoolers
By David Mekeel
Reading, PA - Safe-sex advocates preach that there are ways to make sex with condoms fun, but some Reading middle school teachers are uneasy about discussing the topic in class.
Teachers union President Daniel Grim is questioning whether a planned teen-pregnancy program in the health curriculum is appropriate for students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades.
Grim told the school board that some teachers feel the material is too graphic and they are uncomfortable teaching it.
“I recommend you take a look at this,” Grim said at a board meeting Wednesday. “It’s not appropriate for middle school.”
Grim noted part of the program that deals with how to make condoms “fun and pleasurable.” Suggested lessons include how to work a condom into foreplay and tips on making sex with condoms more physically pleasing.
Wow, this is so irritating to read. Homeschooling really does sound like a good alternative.

 Irritation is not the emotion that immediately comes to the top.

At least they put it in the health curriculum. In Texas, health class material is supposed to be ‘abstinance only.’ So they just cover contraception in Science or History class.

I find it facinating that this is the teachers union making the objection. Most state teachers unions are very pro-sex ed/pro-PP. If even that group find the material objectionable, it must be bad.

This reminds me of Pres. Clinton’s secretary of health who said, we taught them what to do in the front seat of the car, now let’s also teach them what to do in the back seat. When we bring our morality into the classroom, they cry separation of church and state, when they bring theirs, that’s just fine. And oh, we are so intolerant. We really need those school vouchers. Let those parents who are sick of the liberals taking their kids hostage in a culture war just remove their kids from schools that promote immorality. There should be a choice and parents should be able to find schools that uphold Christian morality without having to pay twice for them (first by taxes, second by tuition fees).

This really is sad. You can’t even raise a Christian family anymore without someone forcing you (or trying to force you) to do otherwise - all in the name of accepting everyone as they are, whether they’re black, yellow, orange, purple…as long as they’re not Christian. 😦

Oh, and JPUSC, your signature is awesume, especially the little emoticon at the bottom, lol. 😃

Did you guys read the article? They were chosen because whatever they are doing now isn’t working 😦

Is is morally correct to turn a blind eye to real problems and life issues because their solutions don’t fit in our little understanding of right and wrong?

Before you answer think about Christ. A traitor to the Jewish nations was probably the most hated, despised and morally reprehensible person to a good Jew yet Jesus dined with them as he did others.

Now we can say He didn’t encourage their sin, of course He didn’t but helping people who do not share our understanding that contraception is a sin to do something that might save their life… is that really encouraging sin or possibly saving lives to give them a chance to learn the Truth later?

I know that I know the answer for sure on that… so this is truly a question not a statement of fact or anything.

They never had sex education in my Catholic elementary/middle school except in the context of family life and the Catechism.

How many pregnancies occured? None.

In a neighboring public school where a friend went, they brought in a dildo and showed those children how to put on a condom.

How many pregnancies occured? Several.

I don’t think children should be exposed to these things so soon and to be taught about sex in a fun way. It just causes sex to be viewed as a recreational activity. Plus, middle-schoolers can be so stupid and clueless at times. I don’t know why anyone would expect them to fully comprehend something like sex.

jwashu,

Your post indicates that you are already convinced that teaching kids about ‘safe sex’ will reduce their pregnancy and STD rates. I’d like to challenge you on that assumption.

Sure, it seems reasonable on the surface. If the behaviors are the same either way it’s a no brainer that pregnancy and STD are reduced with the condoms.

But it isn’t the same either way. When you tell a kid that using a condom makes it ‘safe sex’ you CHANGE his perception of it. First, you undermine any moral restrictions you may have tried to put against promiscuity in their upbringing. Second, you undermine your own warning that promiscuity leads to STD transmissions.

The fact is that the more ‘safe sex’ is pushed, the more widespread STD’s and teen pregnancy becomes. Telling them it is ‘safe’ with a condom makes them MORE inclined to engage in risky behavior, not less.
