Is the “Divine Hours” by Phyllis Tickle an acceptable version for doing the LOTH? I ask, because I located a copy at the local Hastings bookstore

never heard of it, who is the publisher? if the publisher is not Catholic it is probably not a version approved for public recitation of LOTH. It may possibly acceptable for private devotion if it contains nothing contrary to the Catholic faith, and if the psalms and readings are translated properly.

It is not.

I may be wrong, but it could be more based on the Book of Common Prayer than on the Roman Divine Office.

Only the Liturgy of the Hours/Christian Prayer/Shorter Christian Prayer editions are approved (US) or the ones by Collins (UK), although Magnificat’s prints are also approved.

No it is not. It is an unauthorized revision of the Benedictine Hours. For example, it has separated itself from the liturgical calendar, which is part and parcel of the Liturgy of the Hours. Instead the author chose to use the normal secular calendar. So no Easter time devotions, not Feasts or Solemnities, no Advent preparation, etc.

In the USA, there are three acceptable publications. The 4 volume, Liturgy of the Hours, single volume Christian Prayer and the pocket sized Shorter Christian Prayer (aka Traveling Breviary).

These three are published by Catholic Book Publishing.

In the UK, I believe they have a three volume edition Divine Office.

In the UK, I believe they have a three volume edition Divine Office.
And a one-volume edition called Daily Prayer which is everything minus the Office of Readings. I think there is also something called “Shorter Morning and Evening Prayer” but I’ve never seen that.
