There were multiple options for the first two readings and the Psalms on the Feast of the Holy Family, December 31.

Who determines which sections get read? Will the other optional sections get read at another time? If not, can we say that we read the entire New Testament every three years at Sunday Mass?

The celebrant (or in some parishes whoever is going to give the homily) chooses.
In our parish, despite continually reminding the readers (lectors by temporary deputation) to check with the homilist the week before the mass, we often get the “wrong” reading, and the homilist has to backtrack so the congregation will understand the references he is making to a reading they didn’t hear.

Thanks. Why is this week’s readings options while other are not?

I am not sure why there were options. Tho if you read them all they were all on the topic of family.

At our church, Father asked us to read one of the options that was not in the missalette (I was one of the lectors this week).

I read the second reading, and had several people say to me “Hey, you guys read the wrong thing!”

This is painful for me, as this is one of my constant fears - reading the wrong reading - when Father has based his whole sermon on the correct one! Of course, its never happened in 24 years as a lector…
