When a friend from college busted out with this in one of our conversations, it completely blew my mind to pieces. I didn’t even know how to accept something like that it left me speechless.

I really hoped he was kidding. And I realized he really believed it. Hopefully that arrogance is rare and far between for everyone’s sake.

Folks,

Before we consider people who say this to be arrogant and prideful we had better be sure that we understand them. They may be saying that God does not see the sin of a Christian because it is covered by the Blood of Christ. This is a far cry from saying that they don’t sin at all.

I will also echo another respondent farther up on this thread: Please do NOT lump all Protestants into one group! They are very diverse in their beliefs and it offends them unnecessarily when they are accused unjustly of believing certain things. (How would a Catholic like to be held responsible for believing everything that the SSPX teaches?)

This whole thread fills me with sadness. As a convert to RC from Baptist, it pains me to see all those in the Protestant faith lumped together by misinformed posters. The people I was raised with, including my parents, were not a bunch of backwoods morons who took their faith lightly.

I feel your pain. When I was growing up overseas my schoolmates held me personally responsible for every single thing any American had ever done or was doing at the time–and this was at the height of the Vietnam War. It is not pleasant to be held responsible for other people’s mistakes that you do not share.
