Deep subject! Lots of materials on this, would like to weigh in, but don’t know where to start, so I guess I’ll just start at the start, LOL.
Just to refresh our memories, there was the battle of 9 kings in Genesis 12+. One of those kings, the king of Salem (the same city to become Jeru-SALEM later) was a man called Melchizedek … a gentile high priest of God himself, some say this he was a type of Christ, which makes total sense.
Anyway, after Melchizedek helped Abram (don’t think his name had changed just yet, time to re-read, haha) clear the lands, Mel offered to Abram bread and wine as a symbol of their unity. I just think it’s totally foreshadowed and all in the mysterious divine plan for the use of bread and wine. And, to finally link all this, according to inspired author of Hebrews, Jesus is the High Priest of the order of Melchizedek, how cool is that?!?!
