Well, take a look at this one:

realcatholictv.com/free/index.php?vidID=vort-2010-08-09

You know, this summer I have taken a bible history course and one thing I have learned is that there is ALWAYS consequences for evil acts. So this country has had 50 million surgical abortions and only God knows how many chemical…there will infallibly be consequences. And that is not the only intrinsic evil that is growing. We do need to stay very spiritually prepared. Spiritual warfare ongoing.

Yet we know who is Victor.

Ave Maria,
Your link is simply a sign up page. Apparently the site is getting a lot of flack, understandably, and they no longer allow open viewing of their materials. In addition, they now charge a monthly fee to see the “premium programs.” Unreal! Most news reporting agencies in the Catholic world do not ascribe to practices such as this.

A caveat to unsuspecting readers here at CA:

Further Information in Support of Example:

“Extreme antipathy to the liturgy of the Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite”

In a CIA (Catholic Investigative Agency) program entitled “Weapons of MASS Destruction”, Michael Voris portrays the origins and nature of the Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite in such a way as to lead him to conclude that, while it is a valid Mass, it is such a violent rupture with past forms of worship that it is “not authentic Catholic worship”. The program is a rehash of the usual over-simplifications which elevate certain problems and internal struggles over liturgical renewal into a total indictment of the Novus Ordo, a case made primarily on the basis of preferring some traditional commentators over others, and pitting the judgment of favorite authors against the popes who superintended the changes to the liturgy. While a particularly noteworthy case of the problem with RealCatholicTV’s tendency toward extremism, it is exactly this tendency which negatively colors so much of their otherwise well-intentioned programming.

Further Information in Support of Example:

“Over-simplification of Church problems.”

RealCatholicTV programs sometimes over-simplify problems within the Church or paint the Church as a whole with too broad a brush. Many programs make blanket assertions about common failings as if they are completely universal, sometimes giving the impression that the vast majority of bishops and priests are woefully inadequate. An example of the over-simplification of an issue would be the Vortex for July 12, 2010 (“The Long Goodbye”) in which efforts to get fallen away Catholics to return to the practice of their faith are universally dismissed as needed only because of failures internal to the Church herself, and complex problems of secularism and theological modernism are consistently referred to as “Protestantism.” While RealCatholicTV definitely addresses real problems within the Church, in general its programming could be improved both by avoiding blanket claims and employing greater analytical care.

I totally agree on the charging for content. EWTN offers a myriad of ways to view their programs, and they’re all free. You can even stream their tv or radio from an iphone or blackberry. Relevant radio also offers internet streaming of ALL of their stations and affiliates.

EWTN is viewer supported, and they do a much better job of not being obnoxious about begging for money than PBS. (relevant radio, unfortunately, has PBS style beg-athons)

I disagree with those who are complaining about Real Catholic TV charging a fee to be a primium subscriber. You can sign up for a free access account which give you a page of free videos to view. But for only $10 per month you get primium access to view many more programs including talks/retreats. That is such a low price to spread the cost among everyone. Either you keep begging viewers to support you and I’ll bet that there is just a small percentage of contributors that keep things afloat. Or you ask all of those wanting to have primium access to contribute a minimal amount.

Did you ever wonder what happened with the New Age Movement? You might have thought that that battle was over but it is not. They have been regrouping. One of the videos on the premium channel has a talk by Constance Cumby who gives a very informative talk.

Father Frank Pavone asked an intriguing question this week: If you were speaking to all the priests of the country, what’s the one piece of advice you would give them?

In charity, I would refer them to the Encyclical of Pope Pius XI, Casti Connubii (On Christian Marriage) dated 12/31/1930:
  1. Since, therefore, openly departing from the uninterrupted Christian tradition some recently have judged it possibl…e solemnly to declare another doctrine regarding this question, the Catholic Church, to whom God has entrusted the defense of the integrity and purity of morals, standing erect in the midst of the moral ruin which surrounds her, in order that she may preserve the chastity of the nuptial union from being defiled by this foul stain, raises her voice in token of her divine ambassadorship and through Our mouth proclaims anew: any use whatsoever of matrimony exercised in such a way that the act is deliberately frustrated in its natural power to generate life is an offense against the law of God and of nature, and those who indulge in such are branded with the guilt of a grave sin.
  2. We admonish, therefore, priests who hear confessions and others who have the care of souls, in virtue of Our supreme authority and in Our solicitude for the salvation of souls, not to allow the faithful entrusted to them to err regarding this most grave law of God; much more, that they keep themselves immune from such false opinions, in no way conniving in them. If any confessor or pastor of souls, which may God forbid, lead the faithful entrusted to him into these errors or should at least confirm them by approval or by guilty silence, let him be mindful of the fact that he must render a strict account to God, the Supreme Judge, for the betrayal of his sacred trust, and let him take to himself the words of Christ: "They are blind and leaders of the blind: and if the blind lead the blind, both fall into the pit.” Matthew 15:14
  3. Those who hold the reins of government should not forget that it is the duty of public authority by appropriate laws and sanctions to defend the lives of the innocent, and this all the more so since those whose lives are endangered and assailed cannot defend themselves. Among whom we must mention in the first place infants hidden in the mother’s womb. And if the public magistrates not only do not defend them, but by their laws and ordinances betray them to death at the hands of doctors or of others, let them remember that God is the Judge and Avenger of innocent blood which cried from earth to Heaven. Genesis 4:10See More

To add to Zab’s comment, RealCatholicTV set up their business model to maintain their freedom from external influence. Watch this video to learn more:

P.S. Armor of God (under basic training) is a really good series for RealCatholicTV premium members 🙂

Yikes. Scary stuff. Thank you for this recommendation. Constance Cumbey gave a very smart and eye-opening presentation.

We must be able to identify the presence of the New Age agenda both in our world and in our Churches. Earth worship definitely has a strong foothold among many religious “sisters” and, as Cumbey points out, among some priests as well.

The video is 47 minutes long; I’d urge everyone with premium access to watch it.

Those who don’t wish to sign up for a free account on the RealCatholicTV web site can view some of the free material, particularly the Vortex videos, on YouTube.

While it would be nice if all the content were free, I completely understand the need for premium access: an operation such as RealCatholicTV has expenses that have to be paid. There are three basic ways thy can raise funds: charge for content, embed ads, and/or solicit donations. Each of these has pros and cons. Would another option be better for RCTV? Perhaps. Perhaps not. But I can see a number of good reasons for go the route they did. If people won’t pay I’m sure they’ll adjust their business plan.

BTW – RCTV is not the first Catholic site to charge for premium content. Check out fathercorapi.com, for one (I’m referring to the subscription services, not the CD/DVD sales).

what is wrong in supporting a great Catholic organization to evangelize Catholics? it is better than pay millions of dollars because of sex scandals.

Monkey see, monkey do … that makes both of them right?

Many noncatholic evangelists offer their programs on the web FREE without registration. In fact, I have never logged on to one yet that requires a sign up to view their programs. Fr. Corapi certainly makes enough off his tapes and appearances to be able to do this freely, especially with his winning 2-1/2 million dollars in his lawsuit. Shouldn’t he give greater example, or at least be on a par with those of noncatholic faiths?

There may be reasons for mandating registration. Fr. Corapi said he receives death threats, and possibly Voris does also due to his radical extremism. Or maybe Voris uses the registrations to subsequently solicit the extra $10 and sell tapes through the user’s email account? Truth be told, I will never pay to view Fr. Corapi’s site. EWTN does contact me in this way because I have bought items from their religious catalog, but if I had to register to view the document library or listen to a program, it would not set well with me.

Yes, they are both right. No “monkey see, monkey do” involved – it’s their material, they have a right to sell it if they wish.

I don’t know why RCTV requires registration to view the free material, unless it is to reduce the risk of denial of service attacks on their web sites – or they simply want to track how many people are using the site. Mr. Voris seems to be pretty open; I suspect he’d explain if you send a polite email asking why.

That is hard to believe, since every blog and website tracks the number of views, just as they do here at CAF on every single thread. This is how they determine the hot topics when they send us updates via email. You-tube also records the number of hits.

Abortion is the greatest crime I know that mankind has commited.

To think over a million lives are extinguished each year in the USA alone!

Horrifying

If a lay person tries to do some good and builds a communications hub and it is not using advertising then it will need donations or some way to keep things going.

How naieve we are to think otherwise.

I agree with you.

Then how do they get funding?

Advertising?

What?

Is this station using advertising? Or what???

We are so quick to judge others when we have so much sin ourselves. I know I have a plank in my eye…

I caught your sarcasm. 😉

Surely you are aware that zillions of blogs are on the internet, and none of them charge a fee to view their evangelization efforts. I see no reason for this, particularly when RCTV has products for sale. I can believe that many will be only too happy to buy them.

I agree he is free to conduct his business as he pleases. And I am just as free to opine that it is a bad witness.

Blogs…

Are you seriuous?

We are not discussing a blog at a site that has free posting and that advertises.

oh yes. i cannot forget the reason for building ugly churches was because there was no money for it. but our Lord knows all things. suddenly the money appeared when was to pay others for sins committed in teh Church. no one can deceive God, no one.
