Ave Maria,
Your link is simply a sign up page. Apparently the site is getting a lot of flack, understandably, and they no longer allow open viewing of their materials. In addition, they now charge a monthly fee to see the “premium programs.” Unreal! Most news reporting agencies in the Catholic world do not ascribe to practices such as this.

A caveat to unsuspecting readers here at CA:

Further Information in Support of Example:

“Extreme antipathy to the liturgy of the Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite”

In a CIA (Catholic Investigative Agency) program entitled “Weapons of MASS Destruction”, Michael Voris portrays the origins and nature of the Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite in such a way as to lead him to conclude that, while it is a valid Mass, it is such a violent rupture with past forms of worship that it is “not authentic Catholic worship”. The program is a rehash of the usual over-simplifications which elevate certain problems and internal struggles over liturgical renewal into a total indictment of the Novus Ordo, a case made primarily on the basis of preferring some traditional commentators over others, and pitting the judgment of favorite authors against the popes who superintended the changes to the liturgy. While a particularly noteworthy case of the problem with RealCatholicTV’s tendency toward extremism, it is exactly this tendency which negatively colors so much of their otherwise well-intentioned programming.

Further Information in Support of Example:

“Over-simplification of Church problems.”

RealCatholicTV programs sometimes over-simplify problems within the Church or paint the Church as a whole with too broad a brush. Many programs make blanket assertions about common failings as if they are completely universal, sometimes giving the impression that the vast majority of bishops and priests are woefully inadequate. An example of the over-simplification of an issue would be the Vortex for July 12, 2010 (“The Long Goodbye”) in which efforts to get fallen away Catholics to return to the practice of their faith are universally dismissed as needed only because of failures internal to the Church herself, and complex problems of secularism and theological modernism are consistently referred to as “Protestantism.” While RealCatholicTV definitely addresses real problems within the Church, in general its programming could be improved both by avoiding blanket claims and employing greater analytical care.
I think what RealCatholicTV is trying to say there has been a break in the hierarchy of the Church. In matters of conscience we now, according to the progressives who came up with this at Vatican II, have the right of individual internal discipline, or conscience, taught (which is a Protestant teaching) instead of faithfulness to the external discipline of the Magesterium.

I have never read any comments made by staff, or volunteers of CAF against RCTV. They have been trying hard to keep the threads civil. However, according to the comment on RCTV’s YouTube channel, RealCatholicTV says “…I am aware that Catholic Answers has spoken against us and that there may be issues with other Catholic media (real or imagined issues)…” This sounds like someone at RCTV is jumping right into “the petty internet forum drama and nonsense.” And I have seen other similar comments as well. As much as I like Real Catholic TV, I am disappointed with the responses that have been made by staff at RCTV against Catholic Answers and board members at CAF.
I have to admit that my renewed interest at CAF started with a post at another site concerning the craziness here and the divisnion and strife over WMD.

I always thought of CAF as a Light for Catholics and a place where it was safe to be Catholic. So when I heard that staff was closing threads because of strife and such over WMD I simply could not believe it.

I have been posting several days and reading much more than normal and I am saddly aware of how divided Catholic at CAF are.

Elts, as I read your response to the above post, I am puzzled by what you meant by this. How does this have anything to do with the review by Catholic Culture?

Hi JR,

Hopefully these comments from RCTV will help unmuddy the waters.

Rafe’s comments that a mandated registration is necessary to read even the free content, shows their intent to proselytize via the registrant’s email address and “promote” … whatever it is they wish to promote.

Websites offering access for guest’s “free” viewing, do not customarily require a registration for this, other than Fr. Corapi.
Hello? Didn’t everyone here have to give their email to signup for CAF? The last I checked this content is Free. Obviously there are a few folks here that have a beef with RCTV. With that said I get emails from both CAF & RCTV and if I don’t want them I turn them off in the preferences, and if I can’t do that for CAF, RCTV, or any other website I’ve given my info to I cancel my account. Just as Michael has said in one of his One True Faith presentations. When the truth is spoken it causes a reaction. There is a definate reaction here on CAF.

God Bless,

That is because the discussion board on RCTV is not as user friendly or as popular as here at CAF ;). In all seriousness. Both CAF and RCTV have things that are good and unique to each organization. The Discussion forum here at CAF is more user friendly to a larger amount of people of various religeous persuasions than RCTV. Therefore, the board is often in need of close monitoring. CAF and RCTV have different ways of evangelizing, but that does not mean that CAF is any less of an apostolate of the Catholic Faith.

Not so. A lurker does not need to give an email UNTIL they register. RCTV won’t even allow lurking and reading in order for anyone to decide they are interested enough to register. CAF allows lurkers to browse freely without an email address.

I do not like giving my e-mail address out either.

What I do is make an account at Yahoo or elsewhere strictly for this type of thing. I am able to register and reset passwords and such with out ever providing my home e-mail.

Solved. 🙂

I wonder if we’re not making this a bigger issue than it has to be.
  1. The email request is very common. Maybe RCTV can allow the person to check off a box that says you don’t want email from them. But that’s not a major issue.
  2. The $10.00 for the premium version is not unreasonalbe, even though it’s not common in Catholic apostolates. Maybe we have to separate the uncommon from the unreasonable. Let’s face it, $10.00 is not a lot of money.
  3. The allegation that Catholic Answers is anit RCTV is unfounded. We were told not to discuss the issue, not because there was something wrong with the issue itself. We were told not to discuss the issue because there was something wrong witht us. People were treating each other rudely and fighting. We should accept that fact. It did happen. There is no need to allege that Catholic Answers is anti RCTV or the other way around. Neither has said anything badly about the other, to the best of my knowledge. But people have been carrying distorted messages back and forth. It’s the posters, not the site administrators of either RCTV or CA.
  4. Yes, Catholic Answers is too flexible on its allowance of debates. But when a moderator stepped in and said that the discussion had turned into a debate and it would not be allowed, then people became upset. When the discussion is allowed to turn into a debate and the moderators don’t step in, then people complain about that too. Each one has to figure out what they want, open debate or moderated discussions, then go to the web site that allows what you want.
  5. In the end, neither CA or RCTV is the Church. The ultimate authority on what we should believe and what we should uphold lies with the Church.
Fraternally,

Br. JR, OSF 🙂

Well, take a look at this one:

realcatholictv.com/free/index.php?vidID=vort-2010-08-09

You know, this summer I have taken a bible history course and one thing I have learned is that there is ALWAYS consequences for evil acts. So this country has had 50 million surgical abortions and only God knows how many chemical…there will infallibly be consequences. And that is not the only intrinsic evil that is growing. We do need to stay very spiritually prepared. Spiritual warfare ongoing.

Yet we know who is Victor.

This link should work without registering.

Moderation is hardly an exact science. It can’t be easy for those here who have to determine just how much rein to give. Too much freedom and the uncharitable are permitted a bigger toehold. Too little and discussion is squelched. For this reason there we have different boards for different styles. I am not interested in RCTV because I have CAF and EWTN. There simply is not a need that I have that is not being met by these two groups. There is no need though to diminish or criticize the job they do. I have seen two videos from there. One was excellent, the other I had serious disagreement with. Big deal. I would never expect full agreement, as that would mean the apostolate was too mushy to be disagreeble to anyone.

As to the funding issue, well, let us not muzzle the ox.

Just as a side note to everyone on this whole free/paid/access issue - all the Vortex episodes, as well as much more content, is available entirely free and without registration of any kind on the RealCatholicTV YouTube page. So if anyone feels that we are holding some sort of hostage type stance on our content unless you give up your email address, that is simply not true. Thousands of people access our content very openly on YouTube every single day.

Solved: RealCatholicTV on YouTube

Why are some people at the RCTV forum saying that the CA forum moderators have banned discussion of Michael Voris and are thinking about doing it again?

Not looking for trouble just Truth. But if truth gets me in trouble so be it.

I read the announcement by the moderator. It was pretty clear. She said that people were behaving inappropriately and she was banning the subject until people calmed down. She was not making a statement about Mr. Voris, but about us. People should be honest and say the truth. Posters were rude to each other and some were mean. That was not the fault of the moderator. I’m not seen anything posted that the topic is going to be banned again. What I read, when the topic was reopenedd, was that we could continue the discussion as long as we follow the rules of respect toward each other.

Abortion is the greatest crime I know that mankind has commited.

To think over a million lives are extinguished each year in the USA alone!

Horrifying
As H.H.JP II said. “a nation that kill it’s own children is a nation without a future”

Take a look around. 😉

Thanks for the link about the Monks. It really puts things in perspective.

Does smoking pot lead you away from a life of greater sacrifice?

As we all know, it really boils down to Our Lords death on the cross.

We are all called to work really hard like he did, and one reminder the Church gives us is the image of a crucifix, to participate in saving Souls Just like God does.

Sorry about this post. Just forget about the pot comment. I thought I was posting on the thread with the marijuana debate.
