“Very unwelcome guest”, I’ll agree that is just the way the promos make it look, and that is just why I am concerned for the children involved. Just how long do you think it’s going to take for all involved to start getting nasty grams and worse via email. In this day and age these parents could very well be endangering the lives of their children just by being on this program. Look at all the personal information that will be availible to all the nut cases and wacko’s of the world about these kids.
I’m not “chicken little”, I’m in no way saying the sky is falling over these programs. What so called intelegent adults do with their lives is one thing, but to involve the childern God entrust to us in this way is just WRONG!

Not all reality TV is bad. As with anything else, the concept itself is netural. There’s some good shows and some bad shows. Shows like Temptation Island–objectively bad, and it would probably be very hard to find good in that. There’s shows like ESPN’s DreamJob, though, which are very good. Basically it’s a televised job interview for a Sportcenter anchor position. You get to see who is good at writing copy, doing highlights, using the TelePrompTer, and knows their sports. There’s nothing bad about it. You don’t get ahead by being mean, cruel, manlipulative, lying, stealing, stabbing people in the back, or anything like that–you win by being the best announcer.

Reality-TV…Isnt that a oxymoron?..Think about it…Just a thought.

Generally I can’t stand “reality” TV. Some of it’s horrible (I’m thinking “The Player” or “Temptation Island” here), some of it’s just plain annoying (“American Idol”, “Newlyweds”).

Just like any other genre of TV, some of it is immoral, some of it is good, and some of it is neutral. Most of it is boring, to me at least. I watched one episode of “Amish in the City”, and got a number of chuckles at how much more decent and normal the Amish kids were than the “normal” city kids. Otherwise, I like “Design on a Dime”, “Mythbusters”, “American Chopper”, and some cooking shows.

Actually not all reality TV is bad. Check out the Amazing Race when it returns in October. Nobody is put in embarassing situations. People are seen as they are, editing on the show may stress one part of a personality over another, but it actually shows people’s real personality.

The only thing a little bad on the show is their definitions of what a couple is, but if you ignore that it is interesting to see how people deal with the stress and obstacles of the game.

I actually like reality tv shows… but I guess that puts me in the minority here, lol

I love Survivor and look forward to each new season…I never miss an episode of Big Brother… I watch the Apprentice, the bachelor/bachelorette, and a few others whose names escape me at this late hour…
This is the first year that I am NOT watching Survivor. I just don’t want to be manipulated by Mark Burnett one more time!😛

I love The Amazing Race; it’s really in a class by itself. Even though I liked Colin (but not Christie) and wanted them to win, I also wanted Chip and Kim to win and am glad they did. They seem like good people.

I watched the first Apprentice and am half-involved with this second go-round. Interesting boardroom last night, the gang-up on Crazy Stacie!

I don’t watch the romantic ones like The Bachelor, Who Wants To Get Married, etc., because I find it so forced. You really can’t force people to fall in love or even like each other!

Bottom line, as the second poster said, reality tv isn’t any better or worse than any other type of tv. Sift through and you can find some great entertainment.

What do you mean? The teams consist of two people in a previously existing relationship, be that husband-wife, father-daughter, best friends, etc. My boss and I always joke about trying out for it, the first boss-secretary team!

If you were watching the previous Amazing Race, not the one that just finished, you would have seen them call the two “gay” guys that won a married couple.

Yeah, I remember, Reichen and Chip. I believe the show called them married because that is how the men referred to themselves, but no matter. I did hear that, after winning, Reichen and Chip broke up, or got divorced, or whatever they called it. The first season had a gay couple on, too, who stayed in the race til the end.

The next season starts right away on Oct 2nd!

You liked Colin? He was soo short-tempered and mean to Christie! What a jerk!

This is one of my favorite shows, though, and I am glad that Chip and Kim won!

I am not a fan, but I agree that they are not any worse than the other shows on TV. Unfortuantely TV robs us of time we could be doing something that matters.

Yes I do like to just relax sometimes and TV can be good for that.

Just wanted to know what everyone’s opinion is on Reality TV is. Do you think that Reality TV is damaging to society or has no effect on society.
I enjoyed that one about living in the 18th century as a pioneer. There are reality shows and reality shows. Some carry as much or more filth as other shows, “reality” or not. And, like those filthy shows, they’re bad for society.

The common good requires that all of us nourish positive attitudes and virtues, unlike most TV shows…

I think theyre mostly junk. I mean…theyre obviously scripted! The 2nd season of american idol with clay and ruben was good…but thats it. well…if extreme makeover is reality tv i love that too.
