What is Pope Paul VI referring to when he says, “A change is also seen in the manner of considering the person of woman and her place in society…”

I would think this would have something to do with the radical feminist ideas. Am I correct?

The key is the word “Person.”

*A change is also seen both in the manner of considering the person of woman and her place in society, and in the value to be attributed to conjugal love in marriage, and also in the appreciation to be made of the meaning of conjugal acts in relation to that love. *

When sex within marriage (conjugal love in marriage) moves toward a satisfaction of desire exclusively, when a woman ceases to be a mother/wife/partner/helpmate and begins to be viewed as a source of pleasure for the spouse, she is reduced from a whole “Person” to an “Object”. The woman looses dignity in proportion to how much she ceases to be a person and becomes an object of lust, to be used for enjoyment.

Whether or not both consent to let it happen is not relevant, because both husband and wife change, with the value of the woman being diminished until she becomes an object of desire for the enjoyment of her spouse. As she is able to gratify the sexual desires of her husband, she has value. If she is not, she has less value. Contraception effects this change instantaneously. All self giving is eliminated, and the woman becomes an object.

The Holy Father is commenting on the value of a woman as a person vs her value as an object, as seen and communicated by society, and how that has changed.

Blessed Pope John Paul II wrote much about the dignity of a “person” and our value as human beings.

I’m sorry. I can’t answer your question because I’m distracted by the TRANSFORMER…

…

I’m not sure if Pope Paul VI’s quote is directly related to ‘radical feminism’ but I would think it has something to do with how the position of a woman in society has changed quite drastically.

Yes, in the past women were objectified but aren’t they objectified now? Hasn’t birth control made women nothing more then a tool for pleasure? Hasn’t abortion hardened the hearts and dimmed the intellect of women? Hasn’t feminism insisted that women are JUST LIKE MEN, so much that being ‘female’ is no longer a distinct role?

But I really need to see this quote in context to understand what he meant by it. Those are just my immediate thoughts. 🙂

I am sorry about the Transformer. Is it offensive?
