So I’ve been getting these terrible thoughts about worshipping bad things. Every time a thought about that pops up I always push it away and I say to myself that God is the one true God. But these horrible thoughts come in one right after another so I constantly have to tell myself that. But what really makes me feel bad is how sometimes I am not in the right space of mind and tell myself wrong things. Any help on how to stop these thoughts, God bless and Happy Easter.

This is spiritual battle. Don’t consent to any of these thoughts. It is exasperating, but I find praying “Jesus help me” or “Lord have mercy on a sinner/Lord have mercy on me” or “Mary Mother of God, please be a Mother to me” and Our Lady has never once failed to come to my aid.

There is no sin, unless you consent to these thoughts - ie think about it, consider it, examine the thought.

Some Saints suffered from temptations and evil thoughts too.

@crv what do you mean by examine? Like i try to find out why im getting these thoughts and stuff, but i feel terrible everytime the name of the bad thing pops into my head everytime i say that I worship God. I dont mean too think it, but it always ends up in my mind. Even when I pray. Also before, like a couple of weeks ago, I got paranoid and kept analyzing the thought over and over again until i realized it was stupid, and I was just making it worse

By examine, I mean to spend some time thinking about it.

If the name just pops into your head, that is a temptation. Once you recognize it, you say you turn away from it and offer a pray etc. Consenting to the thought would be if once you recognized it, and the wrongness of it, you dwelt on it/ thought about it/ extended the thought. At that time, your will has entered into it and you’ve given consent to the thought.

But if once you’ve “see” it in your mind, you reject it, and turn to God and offer up some prayer, and continue to do so until it passes, then there is no consent and no sin.

@CRV ahh okay I see, thank you! A while ago, i would actually be very paranoid about the thought, that I would analyze it repetedly trying to figure out if the thought with purposeful or not (obv not) LOL. But I long realized that it wasnt a good Idea and stopped since.

I often hear mr 6 saying hail marys everytime I ask him what he is doing he has told me he is grumpy and praying a few hail marys calms him down ( he also does this when hes in Time out out of his own accord)

Have you tried praying or even praying the rosary when something triggers you

Whenever a thought like that pops up, say Hail Mary’s until it has dissapeared. If possible, pray in Latin, the evil one hates that

Ave Maria
Gratia plena
Dominus tecum
Benedicta tu in mulieribus
Et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus
Sancta Maria, Mater Dei
Ora pro nobis, peccatoribus
Nunc et in hora mortis nostrae
Amen

Pray! especially for the intercession of St Joseph, terror of demons… to put the enemy to flight.

Our Lady has never once failed to come to my aid.
I know you mean well, however, some of us have asked Mary for intercession and we still face the same temptation, the same failure, the same fear.

Glad that these prayers have always given you consolation. Remember, some do not have the same experience.

It would be a good idea for you to talk to your Priest and also a health professional about your intrusive thoughts.

Acknowledged. I can’t really speak to others’ experience, but only my own.

Whenever i’ve been tempted to impure thoughts, I have found that if I pray "Mary, Mother of Jesus, please be a mother to me now and shelter me from these impure thoughts. OR “Mary, Mother of Jesus, Virgin most pure/chaste, please shelter me from these unchaste thoughts”. My prayer to shelter me from those thoughts have been answered always.

Usually promptly, though sometimes not. I figure God is permitting this for various reasons.

I apologize to you or anyone else reading if I’ve given offense/discouragement of prayers being heard or answered or of help being received from Mary or God.

God bless.

as important as praying is, sometimes it’s not always efficacious to just try and push or suppress the thoughts with nothing to replace them trust me, I’ve tried.

equally important, turn your mind to something else, read a good book, watch a nice movie, listen to some uplifting music, cultivate good and holy thoughts to replace the bad ones.

also, unless you know it’s a bad thought, and accept and dwell on it intentionally, then there is no sin, you may have a thought in your mind for a while without even realizing that you’re thinking it, I’ve had that happen, eventually I snap to my senses then realize what is going on in my head, that’s still not a sin.

someone on here gave a really good analogy for this once, I sincerely apologize but I forget who it was.

there’s a knock on your door, you open to find a man at your door, within a few seconds, you realize he’s up to no good so you tell him to leave and shut the door. those are the thoughts you can recognize right away.

there is aknock at your door, you open it to find a little old lady, she strikes up a conversation and you chat with her for a while, eventually, you subtely detect that she is up to no good, then you close the door. sometimes it takes a while to realize that a thought tha is creeping is bad, it’s not always so evident. still not sinful

when you enter sinful territory is when you invite both the above strangers for tea and start to plot with them about their evil deeds
