…because this goes back to the old days- St. Gregory the Great.
on the Ambrosian Rite:
“The Fraction is done immediately after the Canon, accompanied by an antiphon called the Confractorium [as was the case in the Roman Rite up until St. Gregory the Great]”

I have never heard of this. perhaps it is possible that the confractorium was replaced by the Agnus Dei. any thoughts?
