I have a question regarding the answer that Father gave in “Ask An Apologist”.

Since we cannot change God’s Will (mind) because he already knows what is best, do we essentially pray that whatever God’s Will is be done by our asking? Perhaps, God know that he wants something for a person’s life, but is he, many times, waiting for us to ask so he can bestow it? It is in His Will, but he want us to ask Him for it specifically? Otherwise, if God has already made up His mind, what good is it for us to pray? Does He hold certain results within the parameter of His Will? Like where a mother has a candy bar for her child and is waiting and more than willing to give it to the child, but is waiting for the child to ask her for it. I hope I have expressed this right. Thoughts?

God’s will does not mean that we don’t have choices.

God wills that we be holy. There are many paths to holiness - through entering a monastery, through marriage, through hard work and faithfullness to small responsiblities of our job, through serving the poor, etc.

I don’t think God wills that we have chicken instead of fish but only that we eat healthy, not be gluttonous and give thanks for the food. I don’t think God wills that we use a specific brand of toothpaste but that we take care of ourselves because our bodies are his gift.

I don’t think God “makes up his mind” on many of the things we ask him about. God puts many choices in front of us each day.

I like Tims reply.

.I think of the time when the woman touched Jesus cloak and was healed and she stopped bleeding and Jesus said it was her faith which healed her. I had something like that happen to me. Wow… I believe unless we bring our requests to God, we can’t really expect miracles because we don’t have the faith that it takes to make them happen. We must believe in the miracles of God.

So we should bring our prayer requests to God because we believe God has the power to heal. Of course it is all in His will. God gave us free will and the ability to make choices, to me that says we can make choices to ask God for things to go the way we want them but always to remember that it must be in God will for them to happen. We’re supposed to keep our eyes fixed on God and on the prize and if things work out as we asked then ‘fabulous’ we have God to thank, if they don’t we have to remember that God has a plan, known to Him, but to be forever thankful to God in everything. To live with a heart full of gratitude means everything when we’re faced with difficulties and sicknesses. It really helps us in mind and spirit, and I believe also in body. God only means Good for the people who love Him.

Romans 8:28 We know that all things work together for GOOD for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.

God helps us through things, God never promised that we wouldn’t suffer but He did promise that He would be with us always. We can do anything with Christ who strengthens us.
