Reasoning concerning fornication

I believe many especially young men have pre-marital sex because it boosts the ego. That is the “false ego”. That is subjecated by humility. The false ego is all about me. How does it make me feel? Not how do others feel. This is dangerous because when the ego and pride rules we can easily kick the guy in front of us so to speak without a second though. When this ego is subjected to humility we look at others. So what are we here for? To serve others? or the “me”?

Sound reasonable?
 
If I told you to smoke a cigarette, would you? The Pope would probably say that smoking is a sin, while Christ would probably smoke away in moderation and condemn those who spoke out against him.

Is it the same for sex for you? Most people are unable to have premarital sex without sinning because they go around and brag to their friends. I just brag to my enemies.

The Bible is nothing more than a perfect list of warning signs.

Did the Pope say that smoking is a sin?😃 Hope that helps the smoking issue since we’re on a smoking tangent for I’m sick of health care costs rising due to their COPD and smoking related illnesses.

I’m also not that interested paying for STD’s that result from casual sex nor birth control pills (buy your own) nor abortions with tax payer dollars.

Mary, yeah, most people are unaware that they can get hooked so smoking is dangerous, or that birth control doesn’t always work, or they feel themselves to be some kind of superhuman who will not get an STD.

Had a friend that got herpes. the gift that keeps on giving. Nothing like a reality check
to hit you right in the face. Then she had to tell her husband to be who was ‘grossed out’
Maybe a commercial like this with some woman telling her fiancée she has herpes would be a deterrent to casual sex. They married and it all worked out but she never slept with another guy after that.

Work in a hospital with patients that have smoked forever with COPD and can barely breathe. It’s not so “cool” then.
More scared straight stuff maybe it’s too much though.

It is much too simplistic, even though it might be true in some instances. Complex behaviors do not have “one-size-fits-all” explanations. 🙂 So, no… it is not reasonable at all.

It is reasonable that ego will perish if it even ever existed. Ego is not really complex though, but the appearance of complexity is apparent in your null hypothesis.

That’s true. Much of it comes from the ego boost of thinking of conquests, feeling desired, etc. Physically, the equivalent sensation of pleasure is obtainable by the ‘solitary vice’ (which, although a sin, is certainly not so grave as fornication), so physical lust is only part of the cause of fornication. It is mainly a psychologically and socially motivated sin.

The ego is a waste of time and energy, and makes oneself unhappy and others as well. And the whole ‘romantic love’ thing is a prelude either to fornication or to marriage (or a broken heart), and a waste of time as well. Beatus qui fugit ambo. Melior renuntiare mundum, et vanitates ipsius.

How about this?

“I believe SOME, especially young men have pre-marital sex because it boosts the ego.” Though I would think that the good feeling coming from having sex is more important than an ego-boost (The phrase “a fate worse than death” is out of fashion these days. :)). Not to mention their red-hot libido is “breathing down” on their necks (to be a tad poetic). But the phenomenon is too complex to be reduced to a few sound bites. 😉

By the way, it is a limited christian concept that “fornication” is inherently “bad” (and many christians reject this idea). Since many (or maybe “most”?) people see nothing wrong with the practice, their opinion is not constrained by certain teachings. 🙂 As for the last few questions of the OP (“To serve others? or the “me”?”), the answer would be: “A correct balance between the two”. Extremes are usually unhealthy. Total selfishness is as dumb as total selflessness.

I think it’s been around a little while before the 60’s. In fact quite a while before then.

What do you mean by “fornication”? Performing sex outside a catholic, sacramental marriage? Or performing sex outside some christian marriage? Or performing sex outside some “formal” secular marriage? Let’s not forget that “formal” marriage ceremonies were not universal since the time of cavemen - on the very contrary. There were tribal marriages, morganatic marriages, matriarchal societies (mater semper certa, pater semper incertus est), etc… all sorts of semi-formal or formal arrangements… Which ones are considered “fornications”? (Side note: “how do you know that the sex among the hippies were without love?”.)

It is a usual error to forget that sexual activities were around way before Christianity emerged.

Well heterosexual. We are taught there is only God and sin. I know if I was dating someone I wouldn’t be having sex with them. There’s no desire and it’s a time for discernment. Sex can be dangerous too I’ve said before.
