If someone were to ask you “What is your number one reason for attending mass each week”, what would your answer be?

Because its where I feel the presence of God the most and it the best place to worship with fellow believers and receive God’s grace and love.

To keep his commandment and to receive Him in His most holy sacrifice.

Jesus said, “This is my body and my blood, do this in memory of me.”
He did not say, this is symbolically my body and blood, he said this IS my body and blood and to do it in memory of him.

We gather at mass to fulfill this request. To recieve the real body and blood of Christ. There is no way to do this if we do not attend mass.

I agree with you DiscerningDave and I’d like to add that it is at Mass that I feel the most closely united to the Church even though I am not yet confirmed. Also, Sunday is usually the only time I have during the week to adore Jesus in the Eucharist and at Holy Mass. Also, Mass brings us to the foot of the Cross along with Our Lady.

To be nourished by the Body and Blood of Christ, after that everything else is a plus!

I attend mass for two reasons, one, because it is an obligation. Second because I want to be close to Jesus and the best place for that is going to mass and receiving him. Sometimes I walk into mass troubled and not having an answer to a certain problem. After mass I walk out refreshed and able to face the problem.

May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands, for the praise and glory of God’s name, for our good and the good of all His Church.
Primarily, we pray this just before the “preface” to offer Jesus’s sacrifice in union with Him for our good, the good of those for whom we offer it in our intention, and for the entire Church.

It is the source of redeeming grace, par excellance, and none can exceed it when we want to pray for someone, even if that is our own self.

The second is to receive Jesus Christ in Eucharist, and if no mass is available [we only have one priest, and he sometimes goes on retreat, etc.] then I attend a communion service to unite intimately with Christ.

I forgot to clarify that, for I attend daily mass, which is not of obligation, but a privilege, so when it is not available as it always is on Sunday, I go to the communion service.

Well with a Cathedral, Parish Church and Rectory just a stones throw from where I study, I am spoilt for choice 😛

Why do I go? It is the bread that came down from heaven that gives life and sustains one throughout the day/week. God is strong, while I am weak.

My answer is a little different than most because I cannot receive Our Lord in the Eucharist, yet.

I go because I believe He is there & He is patiently waiting for me to sort out of few things. I go because it’s where I feel the presence of God. The reverence…the worship…it all fits. It’s where I realized everything is true…all the tears & crying out to Him weren’t for nothing.

The main reason I’m going now is because of my understanding, my relationship with Christ. It’s not an obligation (don’t like the word). Since I can’t receive I used to tell myself it doesn’t matter if I go because I’m not fully Catholic. I don’t have to go.

That changed sometime back when I would be on my knees begging to better understand…to know Him. A few personal things happened and I made a promise to God that I would never miss Mass unless I honestly could not make it (in hospital…have something contagious that I wouldn’t want to share 😉 KWIM) I haven’t missed a Mass yet.

Not out of obligation, but a sincere love and thankfulness.

Well, I would say obedience and that covers all the obvious stuff but by golly, I love the Mass!😃

You took the words out of my mouth:D

The number one reason I attend Mass is to worship and receive my Lord - when the true Presence gettig inside of me, it is the most awesome union - He in me, and I in Him. Cannot think of anything else more precious than this.

In obedience to Christ, and in union with his people, my family, to worship the triune God in love and to meet with Christ in a way more intimate than any other on earth, so being strengthened and purified for His service and so growing in love of and union with Jesus.

I don’t attend because it is an obligation. Of course, it is an obligation - but then why do I attend weekday mass too? (not as often as I would like but that’s in part my fault) I attended various protestant services too when it wasn’t obligatory. But the Mass is so much richer than any of those services that I count it as a wonderful privilege even to be in the presence of Christ in the tabernacle. The priviledge of being there at the consecration and even of receiving Christ in such a way is very amazing if I think about it. I attend because it is, for all of us, a privilege to do so.

Wow, Maria, how beautiful, how faithful! You’re not just an inspiration to those coming into the Church but to those of us who sometimes take for granted the precious gift we have in the sacrifice of the Mass!
God bless you!..(and welcome home!)

Because, like the song says,

“I am my Beloved’s and He is mine;
His banner over me is Love -
He washes me clean in living water;
His banner over me is Love -
He seats me at His banqueting table;
His banner over me is Love -
I Love Him and He loves me,
Forever. Forever.”

😃

I definitely feel renewed in spirit and sort of “recalibrated” every time I go – wish I could get myself going to go every day.
