Are there actual reasons you cross paths with someone? Will I ever know the reason why I met my soon-to-be ex and we ended up having a relationship? I know all about free will, but does God place people in your life for a reason even if they aren’t there for forever?

I believe He does. If you want to see the reason for God putting someone in your life, look at the positive attributes the experience uncovers in you. Sometimes what looks like a negative on the surface is used to help spiritual growth.

I think this is true.

I also think that our faith is deepened when we face challenges and disappointments if only we listen to God’s voice calling us. He will bring you through this with new knowledge and understanding. Maybe not right now, but someday. For now, realize how strong you are. This can be a very empowering experience for you. I know that many of us have seen your strength and your faith grow in this time. Remember we are all praying for you!

Nothing in the universe occurs by mere chance.

Yes, you will one day know the reason behind these and all of the events of your life, at the General Judgment. At that time, we will see all of the effects of our life, and all of the ways in which our decisions impacted the world around us, even (perhaps) thousands of years after we made them.

Insofar as this life is concerned: we know that God ultimately permits evil and suffering because, through it, He can draw out a greater good. (Not that God causes evil for the sake of good, of course. But this is a massive, massive topic that would require all sorts of philosophical distinctions which I’m not qualified to make.)
