so ibkc and FCEGM are saying that there is no inspiration given to the leaders or the pope
No, they are saying that God provides the inspiration they need to lead people to the Salvation of Jesus Christ. In terms of their leadership roles, the Holy Spirit guides them in leading their flocks, to the same purpose.
it has to jive with doctrine or revelation already given with the apostles
Exactly! That is the definition of “Apostolic Church”.

FROM REBECCA “falisrm, perhaps we view the purpose of revelation as for different purposes. What is the purpose of revelation in Mormonism?”

Falisrm, why won’t you answer this question? What revelations to the Mormoms get?

Right, so thats exactly what we believe also. There’s really nothing new too it. Just a way to expound on the doctrines or revelations already given. So there is little difference to what catholics believe and mormons believe about revelation.

Except, Mormonism rejects all previous guidance of the Holy Spirit, over the course of 2000 years, as “apostasy”.

well, thats a completely different topic. Its just a matter if the leaders of each church is getting right according to the doctrines and principles of the gospel found in the apostles writtings according to their understanding of it with the inspiration of the holy ghost. Thats the great difference then.

Yes, that is why Sacred Tradition is a part of the Deposit of Faith.

can you use simple terms, i have no idea what those meanings are. Thats another thing i don’t understand about catholism, why does it take a page or 2 of huge words to explain anything. Why don’t you just say the pope receives revelation for the church.

You haven’t addressed the revelation regarding the priesthood and blacks and how that isn’t a contradiction with earlier LDS prophets.

Because you have a different idea of what that means.

Well, because there is a subtle distinction between “guidance” and “revelation”, and also because the Pope is not a solo prophet/dictator of the Church. Language like “the pope receives revelation for the Church” implies things that aren’t exactly correct.

No, we believe the same thing about revelation. Any inspiration from the holy ghost or greater understanding of the doctrines that have already been revealed by the apostles and christ is revelation. You then use that revelation to create laws, traditions or explain principles and doctrines.

Because when we say “revelation” we usually mean either Public Revelation (the Deposit of Faith), private revelation, or the Book of Revelation. We don’t use “revelation” in regard to the leadership of the Holy Father - or any of the bishops - because we avoid implying that he has received any new revelation to which the Church as a whole must give the assent of Faith.

That is hilarious, so your saying that if the catholic church did receive some information from the holy ghost, that would show that they were wrong at one point or it wasn’t complete?

Revelation is revelation, thats the definition, when ever you receive an answer to a prayer or greater understanding of a doctrine or principle, that in and of itself is revelation. I guess that’s why its so celebrated or talked about in the LDS church.

No, we believe the same thing about revelation. Any inspiration from the holy ghost or greater understanding of the doctrines that have already been revealed by the apostles and christ is revelation. You then use that revelation to create laws, traditions or explain principles and doctrines.
Your usage, then, is more generic, while ours is more specific.

ours is just as specific, its the same thing that you believe. There’s personal revelation and authoritative revelation according to the leaders position and his authority.

Only hilarious from a Mormon standpoint, since you think one Prophet can be revealed something (and something totally contradictory) that wasn’t already complete or correct in a revelation received by a previous one.

Catholics, otoh, know that there was nothing wrong or incomplete in Public Revelation received by the Apostles from the Lord Jesus Christ.

No. If someone receives a revelation that contradicts anything in the original deposit of faith as understood as having come to us via Tradition and Scripture, then that revelation is not understood as being from God and it is not approved. The reasoning is that God will not contradict Himself. He sent Jesus to earth to establish the New Covenant and that covenant is eternal.
