Receiving Commuion - how many times in one day

I went to Mass yesterday at noon and received Communion. I also went to a Lenten Mass last evening. My cousin told me that I should not receive Communion twice in one day.

Does anyone know if this is true and the reason for it.

It’s not true. We can receive twice in one day provided that the second time is at Mass.

Can. 917 One who has received the blessed Eucharist may receive it again on the same day only within a eucharistic celebration in which that person participates, without prejudice to the provision of can. 921 §2.

Can. 917 A person who has already received the Most Holy Eucharist can receive it a second time on the same day only within the eucharistic celebration in which the person participates, without prejudice to the prescript of can. 921, §2.

(can. 921.2 makes further exception in the case of imminent death.)

prior to the renewal sought by Vatican II, the faithful regarded the Eucharist with such austerity that they were more inclined to find reason to not receive Communion at Mass. one of the results was the custom in many places to only allow Communion once per day. seeing that we were denying ourselves the one Sacrament that makes us into the Body of Christ, the council fathers set out guidelines that would instruct the people, yet retain the awe and reverence. hence the current canons which encourage frequent confession and reception of the Eucharist. for those suck in the old ways, can. 920…

Can. 920 §1. After being initiated into the Most Holy Eucharist, each of the faithful is obliged to receive holy communion at least once a year.
§2. This precept must be fulfilled during the Easter season unless it is fulfilled for a just cause at another time during the year.
