Receiving Communion And Swine Flu Concerns

I attend the TLM where Communion is exclusively received on the tongue. I am getting very leery of receiving Communion at this time.

Our new priest touches my tongue about every time he gives me Communion. I am not doing anything any different than I have always done…head back, mouth open wide and tongue out…which leaves me wondering am I the only one? I doubt it and that doesn’t set well with me during this time of increased cases of swine flu in town.

Any suggestions? Should I speak with him? He doesn’t seem too approachable and I wouldn’t want to hurt his feelings. Should I just go to Mass and not receive?

Just talk to him. That’s not a valid reason to not receive - that’s the devil trying to make you justify not receiving!

Priests are taught the correct way to maneuver and position their fingers so as to not touch the mouth of the communicant. The rubrics require them to be quite careful about this, because they are supposed to keep their fingers together until the ablutions.

At the same time, another option might be to stick your tongue out as far as you can.
